CBR 125 2008 SMART OR DAFT?

Hey guys, im soon to buy my first bike ( passed my cbt on january ) I want a CBR as they seem to be easy to maintain, decent to insure and good a good mpg. The 2008 in my opinion looks the best, but seeing as it is around 7 years old, would it be problematic? Would i be better off buying a 2013 model rather than a 2008? I plan to keep the bike for more than two years by the way. Thanks

I agree with Rogerborg, if you're over 19 get your A2 and a bigger bike. I now wish I'd had that done rather than the brand new CBR. My only concern with the example bike shown is the scorpion exhaust. I'm given to understand that aftermarket exhausts can cause engine damage if it's not all set up properly (probably wrong but ho hum) also the older version of the CBR is like a monkey bike. It's tiny and to be frank scared the fuck out of me when I took my mates up the road. Buy a decent newer version without any stupid big exhaust or tuning etc.

In addition to what's been said, age & mileage ain't the only factors in determining a bike's reliability. A '13 model CBR125 could have already been ragged to within an inch of it's life with little indication from its appearance.. Especially after being spruced up for sale.

I'd want something with a little less expensive plastic for riding round London. Just because the bike is cheap, it doesn't make the spare parts cheap.

I quite like my CBR. It's really good for riding around London.

Depending on how bad the traffic is, the 125 can be faster than the GSXR1000.

Personally, I'd get the CBR. Ride around for a month or six. Do your A2 test when you've got the hang of it. That way you can at least go up if you need to/want to. The 125 starts feeling really slow really quickly. You'll easily hit the top speed (at least close) of the CBR in London. Just don't allow yourself to be limited by your license.

The good thing with getting the 125 is that they are cheap to buy, cheap to insure and cheap to run. If you do get bored of you can sell it for almost/maybe more/maybe less than what you bought it for. I actually made a £50 on my first 125.
