Buying a bike on a polish plate?

A pal of mine is going to look at a bike tonight, states in the ad "uk bike on polish plate" is it easy enough to put a uk reg back on, if so it does make me wonder why the seller hasn't done it himself .
The bike does seem a bit on the cheap side too, personally id stear clear but what does bcf think?

I'd avoid it on the basis that the seller is lazy or dodgy. Swedish plate seller couldn't see why I had a problem with it l0l U can use bus lanes l0l U dunt even have 2 pay tax they cant catch U l0l.

It probably was a UK bike before it got stolen and taken to Poland to be given a new identity.

As it clearly lowers the resale value, you have to ask why the current owner doesn't want to re-register it in the UK, if it's that easy.

There's a polish bloke at work who's Mrs rides too. She had a Fazer 1000 she was selling because it was going to cost ££££ to get put back on UK plates after being exported to Poland before. It was more cost effective for her to sell it and buy a UK bike he reckoned.

A similar thing is common in the world of second hand VW Transporters. There are tons of them for sale which originated from the UK, but were taken over to Ireland and registered there, then brought back to the UK to put up for sale still on Irish plates. The sellers always state how easy it is to re-register as a UK vehicle but none seem to want to do this themselves.

The cynical amongst Transporter owners say that taking a vehicle to the Republic of Ireland and registering over there erases it's dodgy history, such as write off. The UK HPI check can not cross reference the Irish registration system.

not likely, worked with a couple of polish bike mechanics before, they told me that the polish DVLC is so corrupt that you could get anything registered for a bribe, including vehicles stolen from other countries, also told me about germans who knowingly sell their bikes to poles for this and then claim on their insurance as stolen
