Suzuki gz125 starting problems

Hi,entered into the world of bikes along with my 21 year old son. Purchased a 52 plate gz125. Been running great till about 2 weeks ago. Had a problem with starting and keeping started, tested coil and reg/rect and identified reg/rect as the culprit. Took it out on a run, stopped then came to start again and nothing. Ignition light illuminates starter motor spins, plug Sparks and plenty of fuel but no fails to start. Ignition light then dims, after a few minutes it becomes bright again. I've traced all wires and tested continuity , cleaned all electrical connections but still bike does same thing. I am now at a loss as to where to look next ???

so did you replace the reg/rec??

or are you running constant loss at the moment?

Yes, sorry for confusion. Replaced reg/rect with new one as the tests on the old one failed. Coil and spark plug lead test ok, swapped the cdi with a working one and bike still the same. Started motor spins,spark at plug and fuel.

well as they say. if you have spark, and fuel and oxygen then you should have fire, but if you dont have compression you're not going to get it running,
i got 100psi out of my dr125 a few weeks ago, (same motor)

try doing the valve clearances (.08-.13mm intake and .10-15mm exhaust just set them to .10mm intake and .13mm exhaust) you can get some feeler guages from screwfix or tool station for a couple of quid.

Hi, as hmmmnz has said, you only need 3 things for it to run, compression, spark and fuel/air mix (also with the correct timing).

How are you determining that there is definitely fuel in the cylinder?

If you have definitely got a spark at the plug and you can feel that there is some compression then perhaps a little sniff of fuel down the spark plug hole might completely rule out a fuel issue?
