Fork oil synthetic or mineral or ATf

Did BCF search, even came across a reply by stinkwheel in 2004, and quite possibly still relevant, but thought I would ask afresh for new opinions.

Fully synth, mineral or ATF fluid, whatya use?

Multipurpose or specific weight for general road\motorway use, would I even notice the difference?

I don't worry too much about the type. But the fluid controls the damping. Basically how quickly the forks move. If you use thicker oil the forks won't react as quickly to bumps, etc, and will likely also uncompress more slowly (such as when you come off the brakes).

Personally unless there is a specific problem you are fixing, stick with standard.

The oil level is probably more important to play with. The more oil the less air above the oil, and that air acts as a spring.

Synthetic is supposed to be less sensitive to temperature.

When I raced R/C, silicone oil was vastly preferred to anything else for its thermal stability. Very expensive.

There is cheap Putoline mineral 10 weight in my forks at the moment. Horrible on a cold day. Motul expert is going in next week, translating the motulese i think it's a semi-synth. I'll post on whether I notice a difference.
