Passed my CBT and im looking to buy a 125. Im 6 ft and around 110kg. I am really into the ktm duke 125 but is it a small bike? I havent been able to see one and the dealer ship is quite far from me. Other than the ktm i like the yzfr125 and the cbr 125. how would those bikes be size wise? I already know the varadero is a good choice but im not a fan of how the bike looks. So if there is another choice id like to know Very Happy

It's quite a neat bike. Don't commit to it until you've ridden or at least sat on it for a good long while.

I fancy the 390 but the nearest dealer is 70 miles away and there's no way I'm taking that gamble with these issues on that family:

Probably OK.

Small.

How much money are you planning to blow on a tiddler that you'll regret the first time you ride a bigger bike?

Presumably you're 17 or 18, right?

Umm i can spend around 3k-3,5k.

Im 19

And im planning on keeping this bike for a while. My parents only agreed to me getting a bike if after i took my cbt i would focus on my drivers licence. and im off to uni in a few months so the bike is really just to get from home to uni/ friends houses. no long journeys or anything. Thats why im in no rush to upgrade.

I wouldnt spend that much on your first bike. Likelihood of you dropping it, versus likelihood of you changing your mind.. Anything you 'plan' to do with your first bike is rarely what you actually end up doing with it anyways..! Good choice of bike, but not your first.. too expensive to drop.

Have ridden following 125's, some pretty briefly.

Honda
CG 125, VT 125, CBF 125, CBR 125, Varadero

Yamaha,
DT125,
RT100 (kids bike, but better fun than all the others here, for clueless me that's small enough to fit on it, I can even almost do a wheelie on this, only bike I ever dare try on haha)

Suzuki
Van Van

From this, and if I was stretched 6" and didn't like the Varadero, the DT would win hands down! (I have two of them, neither run, intended project). Being 5ft 7 1/2" I can barely get a tiptoe on the floor.

I guess all you can really do is sit on as many as possible and scrounge a go on whatever and see what you like.

Roger and others on here have lots of informative ideas

Have access to a Varadero and DT 125's if you were close would be welcome to try (have private ground with roads, not popular with estate landlord, but he ok with me for short blasts, away from chicken coop). Had DT's run in the past and would give me intensive to service the blighters as they may start ok.

Bloody kickstart, what a horrible invention lol

Edited, don't want my bikes occasional location posted in public sorry.

Then get an A2 license and don't waste your money wobbling around on a tiddler with Loser plates on it.

If you buy a 125, particularly a premium priced one, you will regret it the moment you try a 500cc+ bike.

Don't take my word for it. When you do your CBT, tell them that you're thinking of doing A2 training and tests and see if you can blag a quick go on an A2 training bike. That'll make your mind up.

Im planning on getting it next year because my parents only agreed on getting me a bike to travel from here to college and uni when i move there. Like i said i dont go out that often so the bike is really only for college/uni and going out with friends. I do plan on getting a 300 bike in the future but for now ive got to get a 125 for these short commutes and pass my drivers test Very Happy

get a bicycle. all the cool kids at uni study art and ride a luminous fixed gear bicycle.

Unless you are living in the city centre I wouldn't buy a 125.

If you are planning on getting a bike later do your test regardless. That way you are not limited to a 125.

Do this. A2 training for £600, then buy something many many times better than a 125 'sports' bike

If you really aren't going to do your license yet then I would say YBR 125 - I'm 6ft1 and I don't feel its too small to me, I've had 65 out of it.
People have said its under powered but its fast enough for me... For now.

im 6'5 and i scoot around on a yamaha SR125 before that a tzr125 and after the tzr but before the SR a dt125.

the DT for my height was brilliant and alot of fun, the sr i can sit pretty comfy on and not look like a 100% dick so to say and since i weigh 14stone it still does 60........ish.
