Just wondering for SD cards is there a best make or is it safe to go for any company Question

I'm only posting this as I've had problems before when I've ordered memory cards supposedly 8gb and they were Chinese ending up being 800mb. This will be used in a camera so is it worth paying top dollar as to speak Question

Buy from a reputable source or fully expect to get stung, I doubt any decent brand out there doesn't have multitudes of fakes out there.

I only use samsung SD cards.

Last one I bought was a Samsung evo UHS-I CLASS 10 32GB SD Micro Card.

Never had probs with them.

The mechanism of purchase is a bigger issue than the brand. Don't buy on eBay, or from a marketplace seller on Amazon, etc. Buy from Amazon direct, or from a big name reseller.

Personally I use Sandisk cards in my Drift cameras and have never had problems (at least, not problems I can definitely blame the card for). Samsung is one brand explicitly recommended against by Drift, some compatibility issues apparently. I am aware of benchmarks showing that Samsung cards are generally faster than Sandisk, however.

I agree with barrkel. Sandisk, Samsung or Kingston are all good, but only ever buy direct from Amazon itself or a big company (e.g. ebuyer). The pound or two saving from ebay or Amazon market place sellers really isn't worth the risk as cards are so relatively cheap now.

Sandisk were market leader and most likely to be sold a copy which won't be the stated speed though it might work happily in less demanding things.
I tend to avoid them as even well known sellers have been caught out with dodgy batches,
Recently I've used Toshiba ones and from ebay without issue including a 4K video camera

I buy sandisc ones from a named, reputable electronics wholesaler who I know I can return them to without quibbles or hassle if there's a problem.

For cheapness, I have also used maplins branded ones.

Mainly get them from HERE though.

Don't do eBay or Amazon (unless it's prime).

I'm using a Class 10 PNY from PC World. Does what I need it to do.

For the sake of a few quid and the risk of potential data loss, just go to Curry's or Jessops for them. They're prices are pretty competitive anyway.

I got an 8GB Micro SD Card for £7.99 at the weekend. I think a 32GB High Performance Class 10 was about £15

As others have said, Sandisk, Samsung, Kingston though have been tempted my Lexar (recommneded by GoPro iirc)

Always buy form Amazon (not 3rd party unless fullfilled by Amazon) or mymemory, so far no fakes.

Make sure what ever card you get isn't speed restricted! It's difficult to remove restricters from cards!

Thank you everyone for the information, quite insightful last time I purchased an SD card it was £35 for an 8gb Extreme Sand Disk. That was back in 2007 though so this has given me plenty of thought.
