Hi there just done a oil change on zx6r g2 yesterday . Put bolt back in sump with new copper washer started to tighten, bolt turns all way in then soon as starts to get tight spins slightly loose again . So re tightend to tightest point and filled with oil . .

Comuted bike work today slight oil drip . So as soon as hot home picked up a new bolt and washer fitted that same thing start to get tight but as soon as time to compress wassher it spins loose bit now leaking worse . I did not over tighten it and bolt was tight and no leak before .

do i need new pan . . Will sealent or mastic work to stop oil as bolt not hand loose .

Proper fix is a new pan or a helicoil to take the thread back to standard size.

I've used sealant to bodge my filler cap which was chucking oil out because Triumph... that hasn't leaked. I'd probably risk 2 crush washers.

I think many people have done what you've done - me included.

You have stripped the thread. New sump time or helicoil the current one, which will have to be removed for it.

Unless you have a torque wrench you have to be gentle, I get the washer to come into contact with the sump then do another 1/8th or 1/4 turn then see if anything leaks, if it does, I'll nip it up a bit more.

Better to start loose than go too tight straight away.

Commuted to work this morning on bike . Just checked 2 hours later and its got little oil on bolt . Thats after 30 miles . So think i leave bolt alone to tommow night coz work transport then try tighten bit more to stop oil that way if it dose spin loose i can pick second hand sump up sat morning .

If it dose tighten more and dont leak friday with 2 crush washers on can i leave as that or do i still need new sump soon .
Thanks

had the same issue on my gpz last month where the sump nut would not tighten all the way. It would go tight(ish) but would loosen the moment you put any real torque through it. - The old bolt would go reasonably tight, but the replacement AND the magnetic one i picked up wouldn't.

I used one of these as advised on here.

Got the bolt as tight as i could (basically finger tight with about an 1/8th of a turn more, so just before it would come loose again) and have not noticed any leaks yet after 400 miles Thumbs Up

If it stops the leaking it'll be ok but personally, I'd replace it. But you'd have a bit more time to find a replacement sump and whatnot

Jesus all you have done is stripped the sump thread. Measure the bolt and buy a sump rethreader tool with plugs in a kit. Just re thread sump fit new bolt and washer. Happens in my garage now and again and this is a good fix.
