Enfield Bullet 350

So I went to see a bullet 350 (1999) for sale tonight.

It has no MOT, and did not start (the ignition key had no effect seemingly). However he showed me a seemingly legit video from a week or so ago of it running..... The engine did turn over fine. He said something about a loose connection in the ignition and the reg/rec being dodgy.

The owner didn't have a bike licence and I has seemingly lost interest.

Offered it delivered to my door for 1k, was up for 1.5k but there was no chance of that. Still seems abit of a risk for a bike I haven't seen running but on the other hand they rarely come up in NI (other than brand new EFI ones).

Bearing in mind NI bike prices are alittle higher due to supply and demand!

Any thoughts from owners as to how easy/hard the electrics are on a bullet? I'm happy enough with the electrics on my Honda CG and CM so is it any different?

Yup, electrics can be diagnosed with a potato.

My 500 came with the side-stand switch unplugged and the kill-switch enhanced with an snippy-snip air-gap, just to simplify it a bit further.

Reg/rec I've not heard of going wrong, so I'd be a little bit wary that he's pulled a connector or fuse to hide a starting issue. But worst case, it's a case of spark + fuel + hetero kick = brap-brap-brap.

Thanks guys I took the plunge and agreed to buy it so It'll be arriving tomorrow morning and I'll hopefully see whats wrong in the afternoon!

It has a silly k&n air filter(and supposedly uprated jet) on which I'd like to take off and put back to stock. I'll see how it runs (if it runs)

It has arrived and runs! Must be a loose connection somewhere.

I am changing the oil, cleaning the filter and maybe changing the gearbox oil as well (If I have enough here!)

Well everything seems to work apart from the front drum brake, I imagine it just needs stripped, cleaned and the relevant parts greased/roughed up.

The fun part will be re-registering it in the UK from ROI. I have a V55/5 form to fill in, and by the looks of things the application will be free as I have a 'New Means of Transport' form from the original seller.

Only thing is I'm not entirely sure why they ask me to enclose an insurance cover-note and fee for first taxation as I can't tax it without an MOT, I can't MOT it without a registration and I can't insure it without a registration! (Well I know you can get them insured on the VIN number, but bleh.

I will try and phone on Monday and see what I actually require as it seems like the bike was registered by an British importer in the UK on the VIN number alone, but was not actually issued a registration number. It was then sold to a NI dealership who sold it to an ROI citizen.

Anyone have much experience on this side of things?

If it's a six inch single leading shoe brake, it will still be poor after you rough it up and grease things.
