Anyone use them for breakdown cover ? Good or bad experience ?

Just had a 'fall out' with current provider, and need family cover for wife, daughter and myself.

I just need to get the vehicles home if I'm away (not to nearest garage)

Green flag always send (or used to) a flatbed.

AA and RAC are likely to send a van within an hour, even when you explain to them there's no way they can fix it.

Van then calls the flat bed, which can take some longer.

Much better service from green flag than RAC/AA from what I've seen.

AA has specific vans for bikes now with a special recovery system
That can load bikes.

So... they send a normal van out to tick off the 'respond within an hour' then you have to wait even longer for a bike-specific van?

No no. All of the new vans (64 plate+) have a new tow dolly in the rear that you can put motorcycles on.

So it can tow bikes and cars it's a tow dolly for cars but adaptors get put on it and you can put a bike on it.

Does it lift the bike fully off the road?
(I've had a similar dolly that does, but not all do.)

Yes buddy lifts both wheels completely off the ground up onto the dolly you wheel the bike onto the platform then the platform gets winched up info the dolly it's a very good system really.

Edit: I'm looking for a photo but can't find any!

I've been with these for a couple of years, after getting ripped off by the RAC for many years before that, and having them take money automitically unless I cancelled, which I absolutely hate Evil or Very Mad

https://www.motoringassist.com/

I had cause to use them one time, the recovery was fast, the guy knew his stuff, but unfortunately it was a flat bed job, but he waited with the car, after dropping me home, and took care of everything.

Communications were excellent too.

I think they have won several awards for their service?

All cars and bike you own/are on are covered.

Had both aa and greenflag. Greenflag I never had to use, aa turned up within 20 minutes at reading service station(east) with a flat bed. V profesional... bike secured properly. was 2 years ago so may have changed, but they were good.

I get green flag with my Natwest account, I have used them 3 times, 1st time was great with me within 30 mins. The next two times it was over an hour and one of those was nearly 2 1/2 hours.

Pretty much every time they loaded it in to the Van and said where do you want to go? dropped me there and then pissed off.

Its free for me so I cant complain and without it I would have been royaly fooked. I cant comment on if that's better or worse than the AA or others as I have never had to use them.

Do any of them do any roadside tinkering for bikes or just cart you off somewhere?

RAC have helped me a good few times when the 535 was fresh out of the dealership and full of faults, and once with a 125 before that when i had rac cover thrown in on my insurance. Usually good at fixing roadside if possible.

Once they sent a contractor who took 5 hours to show, kicked the bike to 'fix' an intermittent electrical problem (losing all electrical power) and fucked off before I could protest. Was not happy at all about that.
