Wonder how long it will take before we see them in any significant numbers, or will some incidents or circumstances occur that result in the technology not being permitted here or in some other countries

Too many duffer motorists out there who would be confused by this technology and would never be able to make good or safe use of it, some of the dopey fackers would probably fall asleep watching the 'telly'.

IMHO it's a gimmick that will never catch on.

There is nothing vaguely exciting about the technology, it's a camera at the front and a monitor at the back

One flaw certainly is the issue of the flat panel/s being nicked, vandalised or accidentally damaged - haulage firms have enough problems protecting their cargo as it is

Another is the aspect of liability - who's to blame / accountable if Mable makes an overtake manoeuvre in her Daewoo Matiz only to hit an oncoming bus full of kittens? She (bless her) thought the road was clear but the camera software on the truck had actually just lapsed a few seconds giving the image of a clear road ahead

Why would any haulage company want to have these on their trucks?

Initial outlay for the equipment and install, then maintenance and replacement due to damage / theft of, likely increased insurance premiums... and then the possibility of legal action against you from other road users for malfunctioning / dirty equipment etc

Yes. There are on the M6 prolifically Lorries from a particular company with optical illusions on the back. Things like 'Which do you see; the princess or the old hag?', or 'Take one line away from these boxed to make one less box'.

People concentrate on the puzzle rather than on the road.
