Hi

What is wrong with the forks? Seals are hideously expensive from Aprilia and they do corrode but you should be able to get someone to replate them for you.

Your exhaust looks OK. Looks like the original system. Small holes can be welded up.

Not 100% sure that the radiator is interchangable between the RS and the AF1.

The rear tyre should be a 130/70 17. Originals were either a Dunlop Arrowmax (awful) or a Pirelli MT75 (far better). Looks horribly like you have the Arrowmaxs' on it.

You also have an odd mix of bits. The fuel tank and clocks are from a 1988 model AF1 Sintesi, but the headlight fairing is from the slightly later Sintesi. The headlight fairing you want pops up on Ebay reasonably often (when cheap I tend to buy them!).

Looks like you also need some mirrors. GSXR600 ones are almost a perfect fit and are the right style. Also they can be bought cheaply as pattern parts (~£25 from a local bike shop here). Also there is no sign of the rear footrest hangers.

Don't know what the other side of the bike looks like, but looks like you got a pretty good deal from the pics you posted.

All the best

Keith

Hi

That petrol tank is the original style one, although there are 2 slightly different ones of the original style ones. That one has the fuel filler cap slightly recessed and I do not know if you can get the replacement caps for those (if you find a source let me know). I picked up a new cap for the other style a few weeks back. The one to go with that fairing is a flush fitting alloy cap like an RS125 one.

To be honest the chrome was rubbish on these early Aprilia forks (I know of one that had the forks replaced due to corrosion when it was under a year old, and it was garaged). I have some spare forks for myself but really you are better off getting them rechromed. It does not help that the front mudguard does not protect the forks at all. Places like HCP or FitForx can do it for you, and I think the 2nd one will take complete forks and doing the strip down / replace seals for you.

By the way, be very careful with the rear light. The bulb holders break very easily and are difficult to find unbroken.

All the best

Keith

Hi

With 2 stroke oil use the best you can afford.

Well, to be honest I use Silkolene Comp 2 most of the time. It did seem to run better on Castrol TTS though, but then it is twice the price.

All the best

Hi

Brake pads should be easy. Same caliper as the RS125 so most dealers are likely to have them in stock. EBC HH pads work well in the RS, but not sure with the Sintesi as it has a cast iron front disk. Rear pads are easy as they are shared with loads of Italian bikes.

The rear tyre is a 130/70 17 (or a 120/80 17) and not used by many bikes now. Should be easy to get one but will almost certainly need to be ordered in. Tyre pressures are 1.9 bar front and 2 bar rear (2 / 2.2 with a pillion).

Think with the front indicators disconnected the rear ones should just come on and stay on rather than flashing. Think the rear light should work fine even if the front light is not connected, and the brake light definatly should. Looking at the wiring diagram I think one of the 15a fuses covers most of the circuits you are having issues with. Also check the fuse holder as I have had problems with one of these melting before.

Given that it will not start off the button but will bump start easily I would say to charge the battery up (or buy a new one, they are cheap and are a 12V 9ah unit used on loads of Aprilias).

All the best

Keith

Hi

If it has been sat for a while, and just started up occasionally to idle for a while then the chances are that the plug is a bit of a mess. Probably worth putting a new one in (and buying a spare as well).

The starter motor should turn the engine over quite quickly. The battery itself is quite pokey for such a small bike.

The fuses sit beside the battery and are easy to find. The battery itself is held in position by the water header tank with a small bolt holding that in place.

All the best

Keith

HI I have a radiator in good condition, and other spare bits, I would be willing to sell.

Please suggest what price you would pay for the radiator, and for delivery from Guildford in the UK.

Regards

Dan Warne
