Are Peugeots reliable bikes?

I'm just wondering whether Peugeot bikes are reliable and whether parts are easy to obtain and whether they are fairly cheap?

I might be getting a Peugeot Satelis 125 which is an 07 plate and has done 20,000, been serviced regularly, 3 previous owners.

Might be able to get it for £700-£750 which I think is a good price.

Just want some opinions.

I had a like (but never love)/hate relationship with my Speedfight.
It was better built than Chinq stuff of the same era, but a Honda XR8S or even the Aprilia SR would have been head and shoulder's better designed and put together.

The one thing Pug's are reasonably good for is keeping up with fashion, and the inbuilt locking system was a good idea too. The mechanicals are far from cutting edge and the build quality was only reasonable, but never really anything special.

If I wanted a new 125 scoot now, then id have to be beaten away from something like a Honda PCX as it's a right proper fuel sipper and well put together too!

speedfights are excellent bikes, the owners however........

had a customer that used one for work, regular servicing, no race parts and the only thing that broke it in 40k miles was a worn thread on the end of the crank from the continuous removal of the variator nut for servicing.

all the problems stem from no maintenance, race exhausts, race rollers, clutches and more money than sense

Satilis will most probably have had a mature owner as its more of a maxi scoot

Peugeot scoots are OK

My elyseo was excellent and never let me down

Good points, my variator must have been on/off dozens of times in say 2-3000miles. I used to change belts every 1000km, as I snapped one and made a right mess on my silly meddled with example.

I never liked the single sided front end with the sloppy rubber bushes in the leading link arm. I think any scoot with proper telescopic forks and 13" or bigger wheels would easily out handle the speedfight and feel far more stable at 60mph+.

The Aprilia SR125 was a far better machine, but I was stupid then and now!

Even more stupid as before I brought it, I could have got a NOS Gilera Apache 125 or TDR125 for not much more cash. I wanted to be Pedboi and failed at it miserably with a machine that was never much good.

It's the only bike I regretted buying, but then if I hadn't got it I would have just as likely had something else silly and unsuitable instead.

Had an Elyseo 125 briefly, the plastic oil pump gears stripped and it seized. Before that it had issues with the spectacularly retarded combined CDI/immobiliser that Peugeot seem so fond of. The electrics were generally hopeless, especially after it had been raining.

It was a poorly-made, unreliable piece of shite. Other Peugeots may be better, but I'm not prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

No idea on parts availability and costs etc, but my first 'bike' was a 2005 Speedfight with 10k miles on it. Got it upto almost 30k without any issues before I sold it

Having said that though, lots of ones I remember looking at back then had been neglected, ragged and 'tuned' to within an inch of their life so I may of just been very lucky.

Point1 I cannot prove, but my Chinq knowledge is sketchy and my stereotypes are set to full ahead!

Point2, Look at the alloy frame on the XR8S, the nice proper telescopic showa's on the front, and the '46' paintjob! The worst case scenario is that it might have been built in a Honda Italy factory, but I'd fully excuse them over shoddy frogs, as you can trace my blood line back to the old country.

I should be a made man and Capo by now!
