Whatever you do, don't stick the plate from the old bike on the new one then whip it of when you get to the MOT. Tut Tut

Thing is, you're going to have to suck up the cost of having the old one taken off your policy anyway because this: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scots-biker-insurance-hell-after-4141840

Has the MOT expired ?

I'm having the same issues at the moment with a car .. If you read the small print of the short term insurance (the one I was looking at) the vehicle isn't covered if it's not MOT'd.

So I guess you wouldn't be covered to take it to MOT station.

Can you ask the garage to pick up the bike?

Any insured and taxed vehicle might spare it's plate if I "need" to use the vehicle. I've not done it before and ridden for weeks....

In short it works fine to swap the plate. Depends on your ethic though.

Derp.

As per my comments there, I reckon MCE (and I still don't know why they're getting involved) are on a sticky wicket, but it'll be a heap of hassle for the chap involved.
