Where do you use that code? Is there a specific venue?

I started looking there. It's not obvious, nor even easy to figure out. You choose a venue, they give you available dates - no mention of a TFL sponsored-course even under 'links' and 'sponsors'.

Also booked in Romford for August 7th. Didn't even know there were courses locally. Many thanks, OP, for the information.

This deal is for TFL staff only I think. If so you probably should have mentioned that. I'd feel slightly uneasy booking with a staff-only voucher that I wasn't entitled to use, in order to attend an event run by the Police.

Whatcha gunna say when they turn to you and ask, with a piercing stare, what you do for a living. Twisted Evil

No Idea, the bloke I got the code from told me TFL told him to share it about.

Whats the worst that can happen, either they tell you to pay up or tell you to leave either way its worth a punt.

Arrested on suspicion of fraud, released without charge when they fail to prove intent? Laughing

I dunno, it might not be staff-only, but they have done staff only BikeSafe courses before (Google proves) and I can't find any public statement about this free BikeSafe thing from them - if it wasn't meant for widespread sharing I guess they'll just revoke the appointments so you have nothing to lose by trying.

It's a TfL scheme to try to reduce squashed biker syndrome in town. I tried to get my company to go for it, but HR weren't interested.

So I'm willing to bet that the above code belongs to a company who did sign up to the scheme. You may get challenged if you don't work for that particular company, but at the end of the day they're just trying to target commuters in an attempt to stop unnecessary accidents.

Some Dude at TfL wrote:
thank you for your interest and registering for free Rider Skills Days, as part of our BikeSafe-London Corporate promotion.

All employees at your workplace can benefit from these free Rider Skills Days, regardless of whether they commute, ride for business or socially using a motorcycle or scooter on London’s roads.

We are looking to promote this initiative widely throughout London’s business community ~ see attached details.

Could you please, therefore, provide your Company’s full business address, together with details of an appropriate contact to disseminate details of this promotion throughout your business.

Once we have received this information, your business will be allocated a Voucher Code to use in the on-line booking system.

Simply follow the ‘Book a Course’ process on the BikeSafe-London website ~ https://www.bikesafe-london.co.uk ~ select a venue/date and enter your Voucher Code when prompted.

I heard about the scheme when I got pulled over, in the pouring rain, by a motorcycle copper. Along with the leaflet about BikeSafe they were handing out earplugs and tread depth gauges.

Are these beneficial at all? Can someone who's done it comment on it?

I'm seriously considering this, however my bike has an after market exhaust with the link through pipe - hence it is quite loud (although still has the baffle in). It's a Ninja ZX636R.

Do you reckon this will cause problems? Will dibble tell me off?

Oh, and should I put the larger number plate back on? (only an inch shorter in height and width).

Will they care?

If you have read one of these books and aren't a terrible rider whos completely unaware you're terrible - probably not that beneficial I would say.

I did enjoy the weekend bikesafe course I did though even having read the book before. It was more interesting than beneficial though. Getting to chat to the police bikers in a 'normal' situation and them being a bit more relaxed about speed/overtaking during the riding assessment bit was interesting; they were focused more on 'ride how you ride' (within reason) and let us try advise on improvement than 'DO NOT SPEED!'. Following them to watch how they position in various situations was interesting in parts too.

We had quite a big group and got split off based on years riding and the pace we usually ride/the bikes we were riding; so it worked quite well. If you ended up in a group with someone on a scooter bimbling along it might take the edge off the day a bit Razz.

It covers some basic first aid stuff on day 1 thats partially orientated around bike-accident scenario's too, so that might be useful for some people. Ours was given by an air ambulance doctor who gave lots of useful information about injuries he often saw in bike accidents.

Mix of bikes we had on our one

I think I remember them saying they were mainly concerned with road-worthyness. Certainly can't remember them caring about the noise levels of any bikes. They did a basic check over the bikes, checked for tax discs as they were still in use when I did mine and i'm fairly sure we had to show insurance/license etc at the beginning of the weekend.

I'm not sure if they checked exhausts for road-marking or anything I can't remember, but I know someone had a pretty badly worn rear tyre and he was allowed to do the riding assessment day after being told he needed to get it sorted out soon.

Just completed my Bike Safe course... was good, but the weather was crap so had to tone it down somewhat.

Ultimately I think it's beneficial, the instructors did take their line very very early before bends, where I plant myself in the middle (dry part) of the road much further. I did get a ticking off for over taking in a 50 at 65, the car was doing 50. Other than that said I was quite good...

I did get lots of [negative] remarks about a loud exhaust though; i.e. half joking, but it did make me sounds faster than I actually was.

All in all, a good day!

As I'm renewing my insurance, completing the Bikesafe course did nothing to reduce my insurance premium.

But, you probably knew that.

Well I did my free bikesafe course today with 3 mates, got free stuff and free lunch at frankie and bennies too!

I think it was supposed to be for london bikers only but no-one cared. Had a good laugh, refreshed my memory of some riding skills and think a couple of my mates really benefitted from it too!
