Following on from another thread but didnt want to hi-jack it.

Ive never really paid much attention to the dates of my driving licence.

Looking at the link to the gov website, category A states a start date of 2nd Feburary 2008.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=95386

I passed my full motorbike licence on the 20th October 2005 (and was supposed to be restricted for 2 years to the old 33bhp rule).

I passed my car test in what i thought was May 2008, although looking at this i could easily be mistaken a month.

So i seem to have lost over 2 years of riding history. I have stated on my insurance that i have had my licence 9 years but this obviously contradicts that.

Do i need to get anything chased up here? i have my pass certificate still for my motorcycle test, not for my car test.

EDIT::

Just seen category P, which is probably what i should have been looking for...

"So i seem to have lost over 2 years of riding history". Common problem is common. https://survivalskills.wordpress.com/2012/02/02/are-riders-in-33hp-licences-uninsured/

I made a point of ringing up and recording the calls whilst asking the question "I passed my Mod 1 and Mod 2 practical tests on X. It's from that date I declare that I have a full licence, so that's X years licence held, right?". They don't seem to be aware of the confusion over the matter at all, when you speak to them over the phone (I get the feeling they mainly deal with other types of insurance, certainly not just motorcycle insurance) and just say Yes.

I now just declare my licence as being held from the date my Restriction expired, because I reached the age and NCB where it didn't make much difference to the price. It made a fucking great big difference to the price to begin with though. It's a travesty that you can go the "sensible route" to a restricted licence, then after two years, have to declare "0 Years licence held" and incur a big insurance premium increase.

Correct (and I'm in the same boat and did and do the same things), but OP appears to have been bummed even harder than normal. It appears that DVLA have just completely spacked up his date - Cat A should be showing as from 20th October 2007, even under their cack handed system of simply forgetting about the old "A <=25kW" licenses.

Getting it corrected, well, good luck. I'd never, ever send them the original pass certificate, because it's literally the only way you can prove your story. With so many of the offices closed, I'm really not sure what you could do to force their hand.

Worth asking them though, should be a laugh.

Ive emailed the dvla via their website. I'm not holding out much hope of anything being changed though but some sort of explanation would be nice at least Rolling Eyes

Just an update for my licence query.

I had a letter come through from the dvla and apparently the difference is because of the 2 discualifcations I've had totalling 105 days.

I'm not even sure why that would change my start date...

You had to retake the test after disqualification?

No, one was 56 days and one was 49 days if I remember correctly. Both in 2007.

On the back of my photocard, my 'valid from' dates are as follows:

AM - 18/10/13
A1 - —————
A2 - 14/10/13
A - 19/01/13

The DVLA site, as in the OP, state the same as 'vehicles you can drive'.

What does this mean? Doesn't that read as 'you have a category A license valid from 19 January 2013'?

There's nothing here that obviously tells me that I only have an A2 license and I'm now a bit confused!

EDIT: ok, looks like I have an A with a tricycle restriction. Makes sense now but they could make it a bit more obvious!
