Just bought a new Yamaha XV950R, and on another thread, someone asked if I was going to upgrade the exhaust. I've found that I can get an Akrapovic fitted with a catalytic converter for about £600.
The question I got is why? What advantage will I gain?

A slight noise increase.

Lose the cat for noise gain, weight loss, ghey loss.

Main advantage to losing your stock setup is the stock setup is ugly.

TBH, the stock exhaust looks about as good as any can will on the XV. Knock the cat out of the current pipe, use the £600 elsewhere.

you dont even need to come on a forum. The akrapovic site has all the losses/gains and even what a standard and akra exhaust sounds like.

You can tell everyone how much you paid for your Akrapovic?

As I understand it, one of the main purposes of cruisers is being able to bolt on expensive tat that doesn't really do anything useful Razz.

I just replaced the exhaust on my KTM 990 SM from stock, wanted to do it for ages but its not so cheap as there are twin cans. My reason for getting it was my bike is a big twin but never really sounded like a big twin, now it does. Laughing

My reasons to the misses was:

Stock cans getting piping hot (true) and could burn our sons hands as he likes to pillion around the village.
Stock cans have burnt my luggage as so bloody hot.
Stock cans are quiet, louder cans save lifes.
Stock cans are so heavy and im on a diet at least my bike could lose some lbs as well.

Not the best picture

It tunes the sound slightly but is 89dB as per the stock can, claims to increase power and torque by a small amount. May vastly increase your insurance.

Get the bike run in first?

If lack of power is a problem within weeks of getting the bike you bought the wrong bike.

You'll go places faster spending the money on advanced training.

I checked out their web site, and although it shows a slight torque increase, I think I'll keep the money in my pocket for now.

On the other hand I do need some summer boots, (not £600,s worth), and the wife's been banging on about wanting some furniture for the living room, I suppose with all the money I've spent in the last couple of weeks, the least I can do is buy a chair for her.

Ebay and gumtree for those - should still have £500 left.
Normally I'd suggest 'trackdays', but maybe only one, as I'd be wanting to hire a bike instead of using that Smile.
