Micro SD > USB Hard drive, without laptop?

Inb4 ''thats ridiculous/won't work'' possibly Whistle

Need to transfer data off some 32gb micro sd's to a USB-powered hard drive soon, but i'm not going to have access to a laptop or anything.

Would running one of these USB hub's off the mains and connecting the hard drive, usb card-reader and my Samsung S3 allow me to transfer between the two using the phone? Would the phone even be capable of handling it?

Edit: I would put the card in the phone, but it has a habit of crashing when I change the card as its nackered, so it wouldn't be ideal.

Any better ideas Thinking

Plugging things into a USB hub wont magically make the files copy across.

You will need something to control the transfer of data.

You could try a phone, and micro sdcard reader and a harddrive. all in the same hub and use a file manager on the phone.

Would it need another file manager installed on the phone then possibly, or might they show up in the phones normal 'my files' browser under the storage list once its all connected?

That would be perfect. Only just bought the new HD and can't justify anywhere near that many £'s though Sad.

Wondering if it might be easy to just buy a cheap old notebook.

On my Android phone, I use EStrongs File Manager.
It may show up as an ex-hd.

I'll give it a shot later and see what happens.

After sharing a room with Matt in France, he likes cables. I've never seen someone take a large multiplug from the UK and hook it up in a Hotel F1 single dodgy EU plug.

Then your only choice is to get a cheap netbook, and upgrade the hard drive in it, to a higher capacity one. Proberly running a really light weight linux distro too, to save some CPU cycles, and get a little more performace from it. Most Netbooks even the early ones come with an SD card slot, no doubt you have an adaptor from when your purchased the card .

Benefits I can see from using a netbook over your phone at a cafe, is a mini full sized computer over errrrr yea, your phone.

Try reading the entire thread before you post pointless waffle.

A cheap netbook is not the only choice.

Got it today - after much messing around with it and some hassle upgrading the firmware; it works and does what it says on the tin - pretty impressive bit of kit Thumbs Up.

Only thing to be careful of with it is needing to rename each folder after the upload, or the next SD Card's worth of video from the helmet cam will simply overwrite the first ones as its from the same card/same file names for each video. Would of been good if it looked at the folders time-stamp and created a duplicate folder each time.

I use an 'OTG' USB cable in my phone's micro USB port, and plug a flash drive or external USB HDD into it. I can then transfer files from the SD card or internal memory easily.

Currently wishing i'd maybe done this - hard drive appears to of had some sort of software failure after two days. Unable to add anymore data to it via its SD port currently Evil or Very Mad. Going to see if i can get an OTG cable somewhere todah and transfer onto it from my phone for now as its still powerering up from the battery and responding on the app okay. Bloody annoying Sad.
