Light gloves

I've tried the search function to no real avail...

I'm not a fan of the big thick style gloves. Is there a protective thin style set available, or are all thin motocross style gloves a complete no no on the road? I did my CBT/Lessons/Tests wearing these and I liked the fact I could feel exactly what was going on to a high extent

If you trust the specification\manufacturer about their protection claims, then I don't see why you shouldn't wear them.

They only need to be good enough to keep your skin on for one incident.

You might be changing your mind about thicker gloves after a cold wet hands day, I carry a spare pair of 'lobster claw' gloves in winter weather, I was surprised how quickly I got used to them.

In better weather I always carry spare gloves as back up, cold and\or wet hands are a big distraction, for me a dangerous distraction on the occasions I have been caught out and no choice but to reach my destination.

They look ok, suppose the only definitive answer will be if you bin it. Get down to something like a J&S and try some different gloves on rather than e-bay, get a better idea then,
My opinion is that like most things in life you get what you pay for. You can get good lightweight leather gloves for summer, e.g. Kangaroo hide, but they might cost a bit more. Have a look around in shops even if you order off e-bay afterwards.
Main thing is if you have an off you instinctively reach out with your hand to fend off the impact, make sure you have something that does the job.

That's what I was afraid of. When I was learning I had no idea really that those gloves were risky, other than I felt more in control using them. They had knuckle and joint protection for the top of the hand, but the palm was pretty thin. I can't imagine they'd hold up in a crash palm first. The others the instructor had were thick and felt restrictive when trying to open my hand for the brake or clutch.

These are terrific summer road gloves. I paid a bit more a year ago, about £75
But out of all my gloves these are my faves.
Not waterproof, or thermal, but have kangaroo palm, knox scaphoid sliders, soft memory foam internal knuckle padding,
and hard knuckle armour, they came up a tiny bit small when new but now they have stretched out a bit to fit me
they are perfect, so much feel. Handy because my visor fastening is a bit fiddly and I can still do it easy in these.

Used to wear a pair of these occasionally in summer - found them noticably cooler than other longer cuff 'summer gloves'.

I'm wearing Held Saron gloves in hot weather. I think they have been replaced by Held with a newer model. Unlined, perforations on the sides of the fingers, big chunk of abrasion resistant superfabric at the heel of the hand, seams on the outside. Great feel and really comfortable.

I recently spent a very long time trawling through the depths of the web to find similar gloves and ended up buying some Alpinestars Atacama Airs.

Been using them for 10 days and absolutely love them.. The feel couldn't be better and they still provide relatively decent protection. Incredibly well ventilated. I recommend ordering a size or two bigger than you'd usually expect, it details this on Revzilla - pay attention to it if you buy them I ended up ordering XL when I'm usually a M.

Only one minor issue is that some of the material on them easily frays when touching velcro so you have to be careful when doing them up. Still completely worth it and thoroughly recommend for town riding. I wouldn't wear them on track for obvious reasons.

Another vote for those Weise gloves.

I've been rocking them for about 18 months now and can't fault them.

You need to try them on though. My hands are large but not shovels (I take a size 8 1/2 glove) but I'm apparently an XXXL in Weise-land
