It's entirely up to each training school how they deliver the course. They can have 4:1 trainees to instructors on the off-road part, and 2:1 on the road. If you want 1:1 instruction you'll need to negotiate for that.
You were right to decline the road ride if you weren't feeling confident. I did too. There's a lot to take in and it's very different from any other vehicle, and surprisingly physical.
Going back on a 2nd day, refreshed, everything was much easier and more pleasurable and I actually enjoyed it. Thing is, I got lucky. I didn't check what would happen if I didn't complete the course in 1 day. Luckily, at that time, with that school, I got the road ride for nothing extra.
Plenty of people get gypped just as you did. It's sad, but it's entirely down to your contract with the training school. If you have a problem with them, then you should take it up with them, or Trading Standard or your local Citizen's Advice.
However, I hope that it hasn't put you off biking. Once you figure it out (and you will if you try again), it's an immensely pleasurable experience. You just need to get past the training and tests stages by whatever means necessary. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You are right. There was a lot to take in and the handling of the bike was very different to a car and very different to a pedal cycle and yes it is physical.
The guy doing the instruction said asked if I would carry on later and I said mmm maybe I will have to think about it. *IF* I do I think I will go to a different training school and outline my terms from the outset. For example I am not interested in the bit of paper until I feel confident to carry it out and I don't want to be pressured by some "structured day" and certainly don't want any other clients learning with me. |

Long, shitty day at work brings you this response:
1, Did you ask if it was going to be 1:1 when you booked it? no? Then don't assume.
2, If you buy a packet of pink panther biscuits, eat half, then decide you don't like them, would you expect to get a refund on half a packet? No? Then why would this be any different when you decided you didn't want to go on the road ride?
3, do you always take to then internet to put blame on other people then things don't go your way?
If you really have a desire to ride a motorcycle, dust yourself off, and try again at a different school with a different mindset going in. It will be worth it when its all done and your riding your own bike,
If not, never mind. ____________________ Riding: Yamaha MT-09 Tracer Occasionally Riding: 08 Suzuki SV650, Potato: 2011 Yamaha YBR Custom.

I think your analogy is slightly skewed. The training school website mentions nothing of a group session, the email booking sent to me mentioned nothing of a group session and the website advertised a cheaper price for more than one person. I paid the higher price for exactly that. Less than two people!
Eating half a packet of biscuits is vastly different to someone's life and road safety and as I paid the fuller price for less than two people as far as I am concerned I have been short changed. |
