Have you considered calling the bank rather than BCF?

"there was a plain clothes copper at the 2nd machine" How do you know they were a cop?

Sounds very similar to a scam that was run down the road from me a short while ago, turned out to be the cashpoint was bugged with a camera and the keypad was a fake.

Report to the shop the cash point is joined to so it can be turned off and investigated.

Phone the bank and explain the situation ASAP, may involve coppers if you remember details of zed females.

*flashback of every cash point locally hanging off the wall and not in use, I'd avoid withdrawing cash in the area for a while if you can*

I have heard of card readers being placed over the card slot, so they read your card as you're using the machine.

I am not aware of any thing that involves stopping the cash from coming out, then retrieving it later.

they only con i know of like that, is distracting the user as the cash comes out, then nicking the cash

Have you phoned the bank or been to the place with the dodgy machine to report it

The first machine skimmed his card and at the second machine the two girls he noticed that 'moved in' got his pin number.

Call the bank now to get the card stopped.

Okay. In answer to your original question, stopping the cash coming out is an older trick than card skimming.

I thought cash machine scams were as well known as the "I'll send you several thousands more than the agreed sale price by bank transfer, you can keep a couple of hundred of that for your trouble and send me the rest by western union. My collection agent will collect the bike. Thank you and god bless"

Just took my Dad to the cash machine....first machine he tried to get £50 but only got card back, (very sus). 2nd machine worked fine.

I got him to check his a/c online and sure enough, two lots of £50 have been taken.

Bastids Mad

2 things I noticed.....there was a plain clothes copper at the 2nd machine when we arrived and also, when we moved from the first machine to the other, 2 girls moved in and they looked a bit cagey to me.

I phoned bank when cash machine didnt dispense the 20 note i requested.

Bank credited my account with £20.

2 days later "we can confirm that this cash machine didnt give you 20 ponds"

problem solved.

Report it to the police if you want.

If it were me I'd be calling the bank again to confirm that the card has been cancelled.

Speaking with your local branch isn't necessary.

Not sus at all. Its very common. Get many calls a day on such things.
Point's to note. Never use any atm outside a Co-op and avoid barclays as well.
These are the ones that crop up more than any other's Thumbs Up

Just simply call the tel no for telephone banking and ask for the disputes team. Thumbs Up
Takes upto 28 days for the atm owner to respond. Hence why you get a upfront refund while its being sorted.

No reason to stop the card, unless he is really worried. As at the end of the day he still has his card. So any fraud would be outside the UK and its a easy refund case Thumbs Up
If your card has a chip and they try to fake the card. If its not got a chip as expected. They wont get any cash.

Best thing to do is live in your overdraft like I do.
That way, if you do get scammed, they've stolen from the bank, and not you. Very Happy

Same way as a Credit Card is more secure to do online payments with. As it's not actually you're money they are taking.

What if you can't prove any criminality so the bank can simply assume you're lying and ask for the money back?

In the tv drama 'hustle' one con was to take money out, dab a bit of glue on the flap for the slot and walk away

Come back later, take more money out and as the slot should be opening thump the machine to break the glue and the cash all slides out

no idea if it works in reality but a possibility?

I once had a machine that had been wrongly loaded, the tenners were in the twenty pile and visa versa. A request for £250 resulted in £120 in £10s and one £20 note. I was not happy but the bank did sort it for me.

I bet you quickly took out a few 'tenners' though right? Smile

Scammed money being from your overdraft makes no difference to anything.

The problem for people who have their card cloned is that their account gets emptied leaving them with no money for however long it takes the bank to sort it out. The chances are you're only going to discover that when trying to pay for something when the machine beeps saying card declined.

The majority of people will get the amount refunded to their account immediately upon reporting it to their bank, it's quite unfortunate for those who aren't part of that majority.

A card having a chip on it isn't going to stop the card being cloned and it's not going to stop the card being cashed out. Laughing

If your card has been skimmed at the cash machine on Derp High Street then you're not going to be the only person to have their card cloned after using that machine. Cross reference the statements for every card that's been cloned and it wouldn't take long to see common denominators such as the cash machine on Derp High Street.

Save yourself some time, rather than trying that just go and hand yourself in at the local police station. Thumbs Up
