Anyone ever been to Squires cafe ?

About ten years ago I used to frequent the place along with plenty of other guys, hardly any of which still post on here. Used to have epic times but that's more down to the crowd that we were. On a busy sunny Wednesday evening or weekend its worth a visit.

How do you mean any good?

It usually packed out with bike on a weekend when the weathers nice, Wednesday night is usually the main night during the week.

Other than that it's a pub/cafe they do decent pasties, and there's a kit/accessories shop outback

We went up there and camped for a week at Squires. It was free to camp as long as you spent some money in the pub which obviously was no problem Food was OK, beer was fine. (heard it isn't free camping now but I have no confirmation of that).

Nice enough place. Interesting when there are a load of bikes there to mooch around and people to chat to, and some lovely countryside.

It's not much fun going there on your own. It can be a bit cliquey.
That said, most fun is to be had outside in the 'car' park. This is where most people tend to spend their time when there. This is probably due to the food, drink and atmosphere inside being dire....No, actually it's worse than that, it's fuckingrank.
I've yet to visit an establishment and see as many discarded, uneaten meals as I have witnessed at Squires.
Do yourself a favour, Smiler....Give it a miss.

Food is so-so for premium prices, milk coffee is £1.60 which is too much and my main entertainment is walking round looking at the bikes while listening to the owners talking bollocks
Near Squires be wary of a silver transit parked at the side of the road, it's an unmarked camera van, usually on the A63.

There is a nice little bike friendly cafe 5-10 mins up the road with much better food for less money, look up "ninas cafe swillington" it comes up as dina bites on google maps.

I go up occasionally, easy to get to and everyone in the area knows it so it gets used as a meeting point for rides up to the east coast. The ride from Fidaythorpe to Whitby via Pickering is pretty good while you're in the area. But the plod know it well.

Squires is average. Still go though, not much else to do on bikes round here.

It's worth stopping if passing nearby. I call in most times I go near Leeds. Wouldn't make a trip there just because unless it was an excuse for a ride.

That said the girlfriend finally let me spend all the money on a helmet, boots, gloves and two-piece last week, so trip number three will likely be a demonstration of the back roads between here and squires on the way up and a demonstration of my hatred of the a1m on the return. Mostly an exercise in getting me used to riding 2-up.

Had a burger there in January. Was awful. Chips were good. Mostly just consume the coffee. Suspect the food is less pants when it is busy.

The food's dire. Like, comically poor. Thursday nights are good. The main reason to go imo is for the roads around towton and cawood. But some are hilariously technical and can only be enjoyed properly once you know them a bit better. Otherwise I would probably say go to seaways in fridaythorpe, especially if you're in york. The ride up via stamford bridge / garrowby hill is arguably a lot better than slogging along the A19 to escrick. Plus fridaythorpe is on the wolds and the scenery is a lot better than the depths of the vale. For those who don't know either the sherburn roads or the fridaythorpe roads the latter make for more relaxed riding imo. I actually prefer the sherburn ones, but I had to learn them before I got into to them - and that took a little while because they're a bit tricky in places.

If you are wanting a look at the national railway museum and some awesome riding York is the right place to head too. Go York - helmsley (popular biking stop off) to stokesley which will take you on the Yorkshire TT which is a spectacular stretch of road. From there pick up the A19 then A619 which takes you through northallerton (my home town), towards bedale then over to hawes/ buttertubs pass and even devils bridge (kirby Lonsdale) for more crazy Yorkshire riding.

+1 for the Yorkshire TT and Helmsley. Used to do this run most early Sunday mornings. Could leave my house at 6.30 (near Halifax) and be in Scarborough or Whitby before the cafe's opened.

Re. Squires, I remember what it was like when it was in the village. The old café was a place worth visiting, all except the camber in the car park which used to catch out loads of bikes.... The 'new' Squires is a lot bigger and is more of a venue/fashion parade than a bike café, which is fine if you like that sort of thing. I haven't been to any of its organised events but friends that have say it uses 'patch club' gentlemen as bouncers, and for that reason alone I won't go. I like riding bikes and I can tolerate other motorcyclists, but I refuse to be intimidated by weekend warriors pretending to be traffic wardens...

worth a visit/stop on the way .. as said the food is lackluster... the burger from the van was fine ..
and yeah we travel via the small back roads but still have to run the gauntlet

@ stonesie I`ve sat nav book marked "ninas cafe swillington" truth is I was looking for somewhere else down there ... will tie it in with a circular ride down via Helmsley.. ripon etc. karma added ..
