Is there a big difference between summer and normal gloves?

I was considering getting some summer gloves as my normal gloves are fairly chunky and the build up of heat inside them means sweaty stinky hands after fairly short rides

After having a quick look online, it appears that most of the gloves are still fairly substantial (to provide the required protection) so the question is, do they make that much difference in terms of comfort on a hot day?

If they are good and worth buying, then any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'll go out on a limb here,(geddit), and say most of the "summer" gloves I've seen are short and end at the wrist, presumably so a breeze can work its way up your sleeves to keep you, slightly, cooler!

They're well worth it. Proper summer gloves have far more ventilation whether long cuff or short

Just be prepared that you won't use them for 7 months out of 12

I have 365 gloves. They're crap all year round. (Boom-tish) Used to have different types but stick with the A* 365 (muffs in winter).

Far left too thin.
Red ones bled dye and the velcro was crap.
Bigger RST had thinsulate and made hands sweaty...then cold.
365 are the best of a bunch.

My hands get cold in the winter whatever the fuck I put on them.

But yeah, winter gloves are usually textile, thicker, and lined with something warm and soft.
My summer gloves are simply single skin leather, with armor on knuckles etc.

Summer gloves are sporty or more motocross style, winter gloves will be more like touring ones. There is a big difference.

I think the A* are obviously quality items but as my normal gloves are still waterproof and suit me well for colder days, it would make sense for me to get a cheapish second pair for the summer. As arry has already suggested, I might not get to use them that much!

Whilst searching, I have discovered a motorcycle helmet/clothing shop near me that I didn't know existed so I'll pop in there and hopefully try some on.

I currently have about 10 different pairs of gloves in stock from various manufacturers.

My Weise Daytonas are the best of the bunch for summer riding.
Love them dearly and will replace like for like when they wear out, which may be some time.

Got two pairs of gloves and the summer ones are definitely lighter and cooler.

I bought these recently and they are much more cooler however I did notice the upper part of the thumb, the perforated leather has nothing underneath therefore can see my skin through :S not sure how safe that makes them.

I have 3 types of gloves

but now its too bloody hot so I now use - https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/m30-air-monster-glove-black-green.html they keep my hands nice and cool but as stated you won't be able to use them often.
If its not too cold I use some buffalo gloves - https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/207766 the velcro is awful on these i found.
the summer ones are by far my favourite because i've not got something chunky on my hands, your best bet is probably getting muffs and maybe heated grips
