So, long story short ... made redundant 4 months ago.

Money I'd saved up has now gone on paying mortgage ... nearly nothing left ... so much for paying off the big credit card (at the end of the month I was made redundant).!!

Finally, after having to wait 3 months, the DWP muppets are now going to help with mortgage interest ... turns out less than 1/2 of my mortgage (interest).

Luckily, started a new job which will keep me going for at least another 3 months (initially), hopefully it'll turn in to a long term job.

So all in, I'll get about 3 weeks of help for the mortgage ... big feckin deal ... if I'd been renting then I'm sure they'd have paid nearly 100% of the rent.

So, try to make a life for yourself and the government will make sure they grind you into the ground if you hit a rough patch ... be a sponger and you seem to get everything.

What the feck is the point.

Can you tell I'm pissed off.

All the best ... Barry.

P.S. Seriously thinking that I'll torch the house the next time I'm made redundant and the government and the banks can go feck themselves!!!

No. your landlord will get the rent. In both instances, all you get is to continue living in the house.

How much rent is paid will depend on various factors. Firstly, does your landlord even accept DSS tenants because lots don't?

Ignore paying rent, when you have a couple of nappy wearing benefits tokens and you only get evicted around 10-12 months down the line, into another free house. Fact not fiction btw.

Got it! You are George Osborne and I claim my 5 ponds (less tax)

i know how op feels Crying or Very sad

being off work with an injury was bad enough

we tried to get some help but the council doesn't even class the mortgage as an out going expense
according to them we had over 700 quid a month spare Twisted Evil

my mortgage insurance wouldn't cover it as I was working for an agency as company only recruited through one

Ah, but they've got the latest version of the booke of excuses for why they can't pay the rent.

Never again!!

Although seeing them buying various 'how to successfully claim DLA' guides on the internet and then having their applications turned down was lulz. Laughing

What you may be able to do depending on the terms of your mortgage is extend the term of the mortgage so your monthly payment is less. This should help you in the short term.

I did that when made redundant, I changed it form 15 years to 30 years but once back in work started over paying. Had to pay a £25 fee to change it.

Cutting the government bull, this is basically saying some scumbags will just blow the extra cash on drugs and hookers, rather than paying rent. It's a lot bigger problem than is being let on.

To be fair, it does remove the perverse incentive that landlords used to have to prefer spongers over workers, when the money used to come direct to them every month, safe as houses.

Actually total fiction.

I have just been dealing with someone who didn't pay the rent on their flat and got evicted.

Single mother with 2 kids who was put in a hostel while DSS check out the circumstances.

If she is found to have not paid the rent she is deemed to have made herself homeless which negates the council of any responsibility of having to find anywhere for her to live. If that is the result she will be given a weeks notice to vacate the hostel and if she hasn't found herself a place to live, social will take her kids off her and she will be on the streets.

Actually that is a work of fiction.

It takes about 8 weeks to action an eviction, if the s21 or s8 is served correctly, for s8 its 8 weeks rent owning, which can be just over 4 weeks, depending if rent is due in advance etc

Once an order has been served, you can transfer to the high court and get an eviction the same / next day.

If the tenents are being evicted for rent arrears, the council has no obligation to house them, if a tennent doesn't pay the rent from the LHA, the landlord can apply to be paid direct, and the council is obligated to pay the landlord direct.

10 to 12 months for an eviction due to non payment of rent? Pull the other one.

What you don't say is that the second she's on the streets she becomes eligible for other 'emergency' benefits. Plenty of examples in the benefit system when you "lose your benefits" (e.g. sanctioned for X weeks), and then straight away you claim another 'hardship' benefit to replace it. Doesn't really count as "losing it" then, does it?

I accept DSS tenants, out of the five properties I let out only one is to a working couple, landlord insurance is much dearer when you've DSS tenants though.
