Are Chinese motorcycles the future

Hi to all.
What do you think the future of motorcycling holds for us.
Chinese bikes seem to be abundant in the classified ads nowadays. Autotrader has got quite literally 100s of the things up for sale. I would say 80% of all ads.
Many years ago it was just british bikes that adorned are shores untill Japan got in the act. The great British public shunned them as cheap and nasty and were made of poor quality materials and spares were none exitstant. As we all know they became the best bikes to own and are now regarded as a safe bet to buy and own.
Is history now repeating it self with the introduction of Chinese bikes. We now awash with cheap bikes from this country and the general reaction and reception is there cheap and nasty .But as the years have gone by we hear from increasing members of the motorcycling circles of how much better there getting. Maybe in another 5/10 years time Jap bikes will be a thing of the past and the majority of bikes sold over here will be Chinese and of good quality too ???
Is this history repeating itself or will Chinese bikes always be rubbish copy's of the more favoured Jap offerings.
Some of the Chinese bikes look very well screwed together nowadays and it does make you wonder whether or not they will take over the lions share of sales..
Its no different from the 1970 s when the Japanese models started to make an appearance.
Most thing we by nowadays are made in china from tvs to cars and are of very good quality too !
I think its only a matter of time before they will have a captive audience on the motorcycle scene

British bike manufacturers in the 70's said the Jap bikes were rubbish, which they weren't. In many way far more superior engine wise.

Ive not heard of a chinese bike outdoing any Japanese or British bike in terms of reliability.

probably millions on autotrader as they have a two year shelf life before the frames rot through.

8 out of 10 top selling bikes in the UK were Japanese in 2014.

Different people have different expectations.

i give chink bikes 20-30 years before theyre as reliable as todays jap bikes and by then the russians will have better bikes

Yes, but.
With many long established companies using the relatively cheap chinese manufacturing,
I reckon/hope there will be a refining process ie Fewer but better.

Hopefully the cheap nasty Shingdong kitty kat 50s, Yamasukis etc will go
and the brands that take on better methods and practises will survive.

It may take a while to get over the bad rep though
Who remembers Skoda?
Fuckin awful things until VW took them over but the stink remained
and despite being very different, much better cars, no one wanted to
touch them.

Thank you for creating yet another redundant copy of this regular debate, that offers nothing new except having your branding slapped on it. This rather eloquently sums up the issue with Chinese bike marques.

tl;dr version - they can shift £1K budget 125s out of dodgy back lots. That won't work for £4K+ bikes. Name me a Chinese company that makes, ships, sells and supports its own brand of bikes in the UK though a wholly owned subsidiary.

With the recent recession cheap bikes have become a very tempting option for some and the Chinese have made a killing on this and capitalised on the market. Hopefully now that its over ,they will also see that people are now looking for quality in there new bikes and they will "up there " market a bit.

Incidentally
I recently spoke to a guy I'd met a year or two ago who had a 2011
Sinnis trackstar.
I asked how he was getting on with it and said it was fine, no probs.
A couple of punctures, something minor which I cant remember and
apart from routine servicing, that was it.

When I remarked on the 13000 km-ish on the clocks he told me it had been round the clock once so 113000 kms is 70,000 miles.
It still had the same tyres !

The rear was getting close to the limit though and if the chicken strips were anything to go by, he rode easy.
It did have some surface rust here and there and a bit of peeling on the powder coat at the back of seat but all in all looked to be coping well.
Not bad for a cheap bike eh?

He bought and used it purely as get to work/commuter machine and was very happy with it.
On his second CBT btw, didn't seem to be in hurry to upgrade.

i expect their rise in popularity is solely due to price and most being bought by 'new' riders who dont want to spend a lot on their first bike.

once anyone is interested or has a passion for biking they buy a more established and reliable make.

Personally I see no reason they won't improve their materials, design and reliability to challenge. They are cheap now - for a reason - but as the quality improves and the names get more trusted I foresee their own designs being used and bikes to challenge the established brands emerging.
