Hi guys,

Please help.I've posted over on ex500.com but thought I'd post here too in case anybody has experienced this before.

Earlier this week I was riding and heard a horrible sound from the engine. The bike cut out and wheel locked and then would not start at all. It barely turned over leading me to think it's was either the magnets on the rotor or a seized engine.

Today I took the side cover off and the magnets are in tip top condition. I pulled the spark plugs out and tried the starter and it turned over. Put them back in and the same as before. Just a click and it struggling.

Battery is a good one and even with the rac booster on, it wouldn't do anything.

I drained the oil and nothing suspect on the magnetic sump plug. Turning it with the spark plugs out I can see the pistons moving so assume cam chain is fine.

Worth noting it is incredibly difficult to turn over by hand, even with the plugs out. More difficult than normal.

If something is stopping the engine turning over, it';s probably something pretty serious.

Total guess. Cam seizure or eaten can chain tensioner blade?

If we're gong to be hopeful for a cheap fix, cultch/starter/rotor bolt unscrewed and binding/rubbing on the inside of the casing.

i think its this! one of the 3 bolts looks unscrewed a little bit and i think may have contacted with the larger sprocket behind it. At least that's what i'm hoping..

going to try and get rotor off today and then reassess. Hopefully nothing is deaded or damaged.

For a second i contemplated filing the damage smooth and removing the filings, putting it back together and living on Hope.
Maybe not.

There is a clear lip at the center of the sprocket and a couple mm ground away with some metal floating around.

Laughing Laughing had to double take that.

I may be mad but i'm actually looking at a very low mileage one right now and could use this as spares.. i have so many spares now Laughing
