44 years after last riding a motorbike, I went out and bought myself another one. Nothing too racy or pretentious: a Honda CD200 Benly, almost a classic.

So yesterday I went on the interweb to get it insured and ended up with Bennetts. Big name, bike specialists, must know what they're talking about. On filling out their online form I found that it insisted on writing "CBT: passed", and there was no way to change it. So I phoned up and explained that the CBT wasn't even a twinkle in a Whitehall bureaucrat's eye when I passed my test. "Well," she said, "In that case you're only allowed to ride a 50cc moped." "WHAAAAAT!!!!" This could rather spoil my whole project. I pointed out that I have an A category licence but she repeated over and over that I would have to limit myself to a 50cc moped until I went through the full learning and testing process.

The telephone conversation ended fairly abruptly after that and with a combined sense of almost-confidence and trepidation I jumped onto the DVLA website. Sure enough, my licence covers me for all motorbikes, cars, small trucks, minbuses, you-name-it, although I'm a little disappointed to find that with the new (about 20 years ago) licences I seem to no longer be covered to drive a traction engine or road roller.

So unfortunately this deluded girl has lost Bennetts a customer. Meanwhile I moved down the comparethemeerkat list to the next reputable company and bought my insurance there. It cost me a whole £1 more for the year, but at least they didn't quibble over my licence.

Odd.
I started using Bennets (online, no calls) last September after Footpad James pissed me off and had no problems with my long held license.

Perhaps having had consistent bike insurance for years made a difference but I don't recall any CBT questions, just the usual 'how long have you held your license?' type thing.

Island, I'm quite sure there shouldn't be any issue with insurers: that's why I was surprised by the Bennetts girl and thought it was worth commenting on.

You describe my test to a tee: going round and round a short circuit of streets with him popping up in different places each time and then stepping out into the road to test my emergency stop (brave man!). Part way through I misunderstood his directions and got lost for a while, but he passed me anyway.

A mate of my brothers had a good one, the examiner told him to go as fast as he could down the hill they were at the top of and to stop "as safely as possible" at the bottom. He goes tearing down the hill and the examiner failed him for speeding

I passed my test a couple of days after my B'day and borrowed my mates brand new KH250 to do it. That would have meant to the examiner that I had only spent two days riding bikes over 50cc Not long after my test, I had a Z1, one of the biggest bikes at the time I feel for people trying to get into bikes now, it's not cheap and not easy and it takes for ever. When you do get a big bike, you have to put up with the speed cameras, expensive fuel and rip off insurance

Was just about to leave the house to go and bang a 10/10hbb when i saw this thread...
Texted the girl i was meeting and cancelled, she leaves to go back to uni tomorrow but i dont care.
Copied your story, pasted it into a word document. Saved one copy to laptop, one to a USB drive, and one to an SSD.
Wrapped the SSD in bubble wrap, went out and purchased a safe. Put the SSD in the safe then went in my back garden. Built a bomb shelter in the ground complete with protein bars and water. Placed the safe in the shelter, then build an electric fence around it. Installed an alarm inside and locked up the shelter.
Just finished installing 24 hour CCTV in 1080p overlooking the shelter and will observe the footage every night to make sure no one tries to break in. There is no chance in hell anyone is taking that post away from me. Thanks op, my life is now complete.
