It reduced my premium. Have seen some threads where people have struggled to prove a recovered bike was theres.
Mine came standard, dunno how much it would cost to do. I guess the Carole Nash DNA thing is pretty similar. ____________________ Daytona 675R Road - 5EB R6 Track sold

Nazi Tractor came with Datatag. The price to re-register it with me was "ask us". In the unlikely event[*] that it's stolen and then identified and recovered because of the tag, it would be owned by my insurer anyway by then, so I didn't bother chasing them to pretty-please take all my monies.
As a deterrent to it being stolen in the first place, putting a "datatag" (or "smartwater" or "alphadot" or../) sticker on the bike will have precisely the same effect.
Is it a significant effect?

Take with a large dose of salt. Everyone involved had reasons to show that this was a success, either by increased visible presence or simply not "recording" (or admitting to have recorded) any thefts.
Still, I'd rather mine had the sticker and yours doesn't.

bike came with datatag, I transferred 'ownership'. not convinced it was worth doing, but you never know, I'm one of the (apparently) few folk who have never had a bike stolen (did have one torched)
I did however get a holograph datatag sticker off eBay to put on the dash, more a deterant than the official datatag label under the seat!
is it worth doing? honestly don't know, if the bike didn't already have datatag I wouldn't have bought the datatag stuff for it
don't think it was asked about on insurance although it may be factored in as all beemers have it.
yeh bike stolen insurance paid out, is there much point, probably not, also not unusual to see bike bits for sale on eBay and they say it's datataged in the ad !?! so hardly a deterrent to handling stolen goods.
recovery stats, cant find all that much but looks like jury is out.
I suppose if your bike was stolen and stripped, then say 2 years later, the recipient bike was in a crash and police got datatag to scan it, they would be able to tell you they had found some bits. yeh big deal ____________________ R1250RS
