Should I also order a new graphics card? [PC]

Finally I got upset with my old PC last night so I decided to upgrade. I've already ordered most of the parts.

Current PC is...
- it's slow
- it runs out of hard disk space again and again
- my RAM seems insuficient for today's standards, but the motherboard cannot take more.
- video processing takes forever
- games, they don't work at sensible fps
- monitor is fine, cannot complain, max res 1280x1024

Old PC:
- AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ processor
- motherboard with support for max 4GB RAM DDR400 PC3200
- 4GB RAM
- Radeon HD 7770 2GB graphics card [PCI-E 16]
- HDD 74GB SATA

New PC:
- Intel i7 4790K processor
- motherboard with support for max 32GB RAM DDR3
- 32GB RAM
- Radeon HD 7770 2GB graphics card [PCI-E 16] - unchanged
- HDD 1TB SATA III

Now.. Will I benefit from changing the graphics card at all considering the max res I use is 1280x1024? That's the only part I was not sure about and the graphics cards are quite pricey and I'm totally lost what's good enough anyway.

You can get a 1080 monitor for under £100 these days.

You seem to be building a high end rig with a massive bottleneck at the GPU and a screen resolution from tymes of olde. I'd get a newer monitor and GPU, unless your sole usage is CPU based number crunching.

What's your actual usage and budget?

I need my PC mainly for the internet and some video/photo editing. Video compression takes forever on my old PC.

I'm not a serious gamer. I've got a few that do work but not great.

To answer your question, no I would not think you would benefit from changing the graphics card however I'm not sure whether you're suggesting downgrading or upgrading it.

Your question suggests you're thinking about downgrading and the only thing which would benefit from a downgrade would be your wallet of course.

Looking at the parts you've listed, the build looks good and probably more than adequate for your requirements. However as previously suggested, a full HD monitor will make alot of difference for a small cost.

Actually, I've just realised there's no sign of an SSD drive in your build, I cannot convey how much of a performance boost an SSD drive provides. SSD will give such a massive boost in performance you wont believe it until you've tried it. If you're willing to go for an SSD then post on here before you part with cash as there are many things to take into consideration of an SSD for price, space and performance. also type M2 or SATA

I've never had a SSD, so obviously I don't know the benefits. Although the price of 500MB SSD is £130 and I just paid £35 for 1TB HDD

I've already paid for 32GB RAM, DDR3 is really not that expensive. Never too much memory imho.

The most expensive part was the CPU obviously. I think it's a decent one (sort of mid range one). I didn't want to buy a cheap one, I didn't want to spend silly money either. I just want something that I can keep for a few years without any need to upgrade again.

All I know it it's Corsair Vengeance 4x8GB DDR3 1600MHz CAS 10-10-10-27 XMP. I bet it's faster than DDR400 PC3200.

That's one seriously lopsided build quite frankly.

As stated, you should go get a mid range 250gb SSD literally right now (BX100 - 850 EVO - Extreme Pro are good safe bets that are pretty damn hard to argue against) for £80-£90ish and prepare to have your mind blown at the difference it makes. Building up that CPU with that mechanical HDD is just a waste of money. Lump your steam library, films and porn stash on the 1tb. Operating system and apps on the 250 = job done.

GPUwise, see how you get on before you start throwing more cash at it. Upgrading the graphics card is a 5 minute job. And it's easy to sink too little or too much cash without thinking properly about what you actually need.

You have decided but I will agree with all, SSD all the way, night and day difference. Single most impressive speed increase in my years of messing, was open mouthed the first time.

Pretty sure I run a 7950, plenty of bang in that purchased well over a year ago (I think) running along with 16GB of ram.

As for pricing, memory and HDs can be a bit volatile, whenever I go to upgrade I'm always on the wrong end, so if its cheap for good speed and lots and lots of bytes, snap it up.
