Tight spot in chain fix?

Good Wednesday afternoon all,

I've had my Bandit 1200(K3) for a couple of months now and recently I've had this kind of shhhing noise coming from the bike. I believe I've located it to a couple of tight links in the chain.

Now, the guy I bought the bike off recons the chain was no more than 6 months old. I checked it when I bought the bike and it felt OK but I think the bike's had a bit of a hard life before I got my hands on it.

Anyway, I haven't got £100 to spend on new chain and sprockets at the moment so I was going to try and free up the tight links. Both sprockets look absolutely fine. Thought about just buying a chain but it's best part of £100 for anything half decent.

Am I just being a tight git here? I've just spent a fortune on the exhaust so justifying another £100 to the missus would be suicidal. Mad

Any Ideas

Always blows my mind people have no issue spending money on a nice new exhaust but when it comes to vital parts of the bike they look for a cheap fix, not having a go just saying. Only thing I ever spray on my chain would be chain cleaner or kerosene. I believe the best way to remove stiff links is to remove the chain and leave in engine oil overnight, also I'd always replace c+s at the same time.

Good idea. Much cheaper than a new chain.

They usually free up pretty easy. Watch as the stiff links go over the rear sprocket. I have been using the 10/40 oil i use for gearbox top ups on the links. After some oil and a bit of wiggling Embarassed all will be well again.

Please Robert.... Don't let your mind explode... It'll make a right mess and I'm not taking the blame for it....

The money I spent on the exhaust wasn't for a nice new shine one but more the common issue with the bandit SS system where the collection box joins to the link pipe is made from mild steel and rots away. My chain has only just started making this racket so just looking for options before getting on hands and knees and begging to the missus for ANOTHER £100. Naaaa... sod it... I'll just get a new chain... she gets new shoes every month.. Not really though.

I gave the chain a good going over last night with penetrating oil and it's rolling nicely now. If it can do me another month I'll be happy.

When you replace the chain, invest in an oiler.

Give the chain a good lube and make sure it has tension set correctly aswell could make a difference
