Hi,

This is my first post in this forum so sorry if I break some of the rules.
3 months ago I bought a 1997 535 Virago. I replaced the contacts, carburators, battery and the recharging cable (starting relay - I don't know how to name it in English). Today the bike stopped at a red light, after 2 days of riding just perfectly. It made a "gulp" sound and died. When I'm trying to start the engine again, it does a "screwsh" sound and that's it. The electro-motor does not spin, just that sound.
I checked for gas and the tank is not empty.
Please help me because I really don't know what else should I fix Sad

Regards,
Tudor

Not sure of the gulp and screwsh sounds but I'd check the battery is charged and its terminals are clean and secure first.
Vids often help in cases like this, even crappy phone vids

Where's the sound coming from? If under the seat it's likely the starter relay buzzing, check all the contacts are tight. It's easy to short the positive side of the battery against the frame if it's not secured properly. Loose terminal screws will give you intermittent or otherwise weird electricals, so check that first. Check your fuses too. What does have electrical power?

Check starter motor by using a jump lead from battery positive to the terminal on the starter motor. Starter motor fail is likely dead brushes, easily sorted with repair kit. Whip the starter motor out, check on a battery. Be warned, when you undo the nut on the positive supply terminal, do not let the threaded bolt turn, it will wreck the existing brush.

If the starter motor is in fact turning but the engine isn't that will be your starter clutch gone. Is behind the alternator rotor so a pig to fix.

Is the noise when you turn the key or press the starter button? If it's on the key, is it your fuel pump? Pull the fuel hose from the rear carb, hold over an open petrol can, turn the ignition and see if it pumps fuel properly.
