Hi all,

I have a long enough commute that I'd like to get some Bluetooth headphones to listen to the radio as I ride, but am worried about not hearing what's going on around me, horns etc.

Just wondering how many of you do it and your experiences.

Apologies if this has been covered before .

Cheers

Never listen to music while riding personally.

I always used to when I was doing long dual carriageway trips on my 125. I now have a 600 and commute through twisty roads so I need more concentration than "full throttle, slow down at your exit", and don't tend to.

Anyway, when I do listen to music I go a lot faster and my wife prefers it when I get home in one piece

Depends on the distance, if it'll be most of an album (if I had a complete album on my phone that is) then yes I do..... otherwise no

If I'm going a short distance or doing a lot of stops it's too much bother, but anything longer than about half an hour and I stick some music on. If you only put it in one ear then it doesn't really affect your awareness. Need full volume though or you can't hear the music above 50ish I find.

I rarely do, but I have a 25 minute commute. I always find people want to talk to me if I do, and it affects my riding as well.

I prefer humming (my textiles need a wash).

I tried it a few times when I first started riding. Found it too much of a distraction though. I also found that it affected the way I rode, which wasn't the best thing if it happened to be something heavy and fast. So I don't bother anymore.

Yes, its no different to driving a car.. Or riding with ear plugs - which are shite. If I ever get on a track, yes I will also be listening. No problem commuting at decent speed through some very awesome twisty roads Thumbs Up

I usually have less concentration, and riding less smooth without some music. You get used to it very quickly and then have more concentration to spend.

I will listen to music on long motorway rides, but turn it off as soon as I get off of a junction. I will be going to Ireland this week and will listen to music for most of the four-hour trip to Pembroke. The M4 is just too dull.

My commute is about 35 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day, etc., and I did listen to music for a few months, but I felt out of touch with my surroundings and stopped. Now I sing to myself on my commute instead.

Headphones, bluetooth headsets, meh.. your all stuck in the past, the future is here my fellow bikers, the here and now, purchase a "new" Lexmoto Venom now and have the luxury of a bluetooth speaker system built into your bike, tuck your joggy bottoms into your socks every time you walk down the road from here on out because you now that when you get on your bike you can blast Mozart for the world to listen to, your uber kool level is off the scale.

No, rly, well k00l m8.

Anyway, not personally, I spend to much time faffing around with the GoPro, gloves and checking everything over a thousound times without something else to worry about or go wrong on the fly. Not to my personal interest but I suppose on the motorway it ad make a long trip easier than more of a required slog to get to where you need to go, I have plenty of idiots on my regular commute and short trips to provide me with all the entertainment I need, plus when a car has music blasting I just pull up along side and start bopping my head, and then they apply their throttle and leave my 125 in the smoke of their exhaust Crying or Very sad

If the engine's running on song -- and it is -- then, yes, I listen to music.
Otherwise, no.

Except, for example, when --- most annoyingly --- might suddenly pop into my head something true,
made up of these three words that I must say to you:

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my ["ARSE"!]

Over and over and over and over . . .

Or, even worse

She's just a devil woman
with evil o-on her mind
. . .
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH

Until, thankfully, I find myself going
faster
and faster
and faster
and faster
and faster
and faster
and faster . . .

Thank Fuck

I almost always have music on whilst riding - the only exception being if I'm going somewhere that's less than 10 minutes away. Basically, if spending time picking a playlist will have any real effect on the journey time, I wont bother.

I use a pair of these on the bike. Keep out almost as much noise as my earplugs do.[/url]

Phillips in ear headphones are often the best for noise cancelling. Bluetooth helmets are OK but if your doing long motorway hauls they need charging daily. I would also recommend a Sanza Clip sport or plus. MP3 players with 20 hours battery life tiny lightweight things. A lot less charging and they can live in my jacket pocket without needing charging every night.

Interestingly, I have recently read a news article about how France have banned motorcyclists from wearing earphones. This is in addition to their fluorescent high-vis vest rules!

I wonder if, or when, this may cross the water to us?!?
