Had my first service (600 miles) and it cost £89 now the bike has a two year warranty and the next service is a oil change at 2500 mile.

Will I void my warranty getting it done at the local mechanic who will do it for £40 all in.

I'm not sure to be honest, but I remember this topic posted up not long ago. Have a look in the search bar and you should find your answer.

Depends if your warranty says it must be dealer service. Mine does with Triumph.

Unlike with cars, bike warranties can insist on main dealer servicing. Having it done indie or DIYing it doesn't void your statutory rights to be sold durable goods, but it's not going to make things easier for you.

Let me just work out what bike you have, find a warranty for that marque and read it for you, shall I?

Staffy called it. Don't rely on anyone else's story, it's your contract, read it. For example, new BMW bike warranties don't insist on BMW Motorrad servicing, but extended "approved used" ones do. Or they did. Or I might be lying.

or it might be entirely unclear

BMW extended warranty T&Cs wrote:
1. a) Care of your motorcycle - You
must keep your motorcycle in an
efficient and road worthy condition and
regularly service it in accordance with
the Manufacturer’s recommendations
and genuine parts, or parts of equivalent
specification must be used.
b) After each service, please ensure that
the relevant service details are
completed in your service records by
the servicing garage and obtain a receipt
for the service. You must keep all such
receipts for reference in the event of a
claim.

so "I" can service my bike if I use genuine or equivalent(?) parts who knows, it's a good bet they have a get out somewhere else in the T&Cs

According to my handbook 5,000 miles is a minor service and 7,500 a major service.
Oil change every 2500 miles.
So get local mechanic to do the 2500 oil change and dealer the 5,000 mile and 7,500 service.

Manufacturers is Hyosung.

And what does it say about your warranty?

Don't guess, confirm. If you give them grounds to suck their teeth and quibble, you can bet that they will. Either spend what it takes to do it (literally) by the book or save your money and DIY it. Keep the receipts / parts packaging and if you want the book stamped, £7.15 on eBay buys you a custom stamp saying anything that you like.

If you choose to have your serviced by an independent garage or mechanic, make sure they are reputable.

your requires repair work under its new warranty, the manufacturer has the right to insist that this work is undertaken by its official dealerships.

Service yourself for two or three years as the parts will be all over ebay if they reject warranty claims

Can't see me needing to make a warranty claim. Only major problems I had with previous Hyosung was a corroded ignition wire, side stand switch fault and a faulty fuel vacuum.

Then DIY service it from new. You'll likely do a better job than a garage, "reputable" or otherwise.

Seriously though, what did you just buy? You can't leave us hanging.

Hyosung Gt250R had a 2006 125 from 2008-2012 loved it. This one is even better. Better build quality and obviously quicker.

At devaluing?

I'd sack off the useless warranty from Korea-world and just change the oil.

I'm genuinely baffled as to why you'd spend £3500 on that bike. Eh?

Especially when a Street Triple is available. Faster, better looking, more reliable, less gay and Korean...

For 3.5k you can get a lot of bike that isn't shit and worth about 1500 in 6 months.. Shocked

And why not. I see people buy £50,000 BMW's in metallic Turd colour but they like them.

I had a Suzuki GSR 600 cost me 2 grand was a delightful bike to own but I wasn't using it to its potential and all it was being used for was the odd blast and commuting.

I have a car with cruise control which was a £1000 option but I hardly use it.

I could of gone and spunked 12 grand on a supersports bike if I wanted.

I could of gone to Spain for £300 cheaper than what I'm paying to go to Greece in October but I don't want to.

I liked the GTR 250 So I bought it. And if it's worth nowt this time next year then so be it.

I bought it because I wanted to, and I want to keep it looking and running nice.

It gets good positive feedback by people and it isn't common as muck like other bikes.

I'm baffled that a bike from Korea can cost that much. Are they going up-market?

They've always been too expensive, that's why their previous importer gave up on them. I can't see what will be different this time.

They are nice. A full sized GS500-ish frame, a really quite elegant quad cam 8 valve v-twin engine. They're the very best, very biggest, shitty little over-priced under-supported obsolete trinket on which you can waste your money.

It's unfortunate if this offends OP, but life is a roller coaster, just gotta ride it.
