Not quite the normal question, but very similar.... Like many people with a car licence I have Cat A on my photocard with the 79(tri) code. However I decided to have a look at the driving license online thingy and its seems to show a full entitlement for Motorcycles!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/catflea/catflea020/entitlement_zpslnft1u6i.jpg

Now, as far as I am concerned I do not have this entitlement so certainly will not be risking using it but does anyone else with the 79(tri) or 79(3) code have that showing on the DVLA online service. I'm certain it was there when I first checked my license on there....

Send off for a new photocard. If it returns minus the trike thing as well then you beat the DVLA.

Can't help with your query but I just got a new photocard licence back from the DVLA this week. It all matches the one
I 'lost' including the online record so that's good at least.
It didn't take too long to come back either, sent on 3/7 and got back again on the 13/7.
Just to add, my Dad has never done his bike test, and he has a full bike licence, so it's entirely possible. Wink
He pulled a fast one with them some 25 years ago now when I was 17, in short he rang them and said he'd
passed his test back in the 70s but never had the entitlement added to his licence. They told him to send it
in which he did and they just added the group to the replacement licence. At the time I was on L's on a 125
and couldn't afford to do my own test so this stunt he pulled pissed me off greatly at the time.

The TRI bit means you can ride a trike under the car licence. The fact that you have numbers in the A category just means you have a provisional entitlement for that category.

It's all on the system.

Plenty of folk have been reporting this.

One chap said he called up and was told that the real story is that he only has provisional A.

I guess what really matters is whether Dibble have access to the prole-lies, or the "real" story.

I despair of the idiots who design these coding schemes. Why not just have a single unique hex code for each possible combination of entitlements/provisionals? Anyone who's confused can then look it up and know with absolute certainty what they're allowed.

Eg 0xFEA1 might mean "full car/bike, provision jet powered unicycle and full steam traction engine up to 40 tons"

Okay it's not intuative, but for 99% of people only about half a dozen codes would ever apply, and there's no ambiguaty.

Hi

Problem with a unique key for the licence groups is we have been forced in to trying to use other unique group that are not the same. And the values of these unique groups have changed (just look at the number of moped groups now in place).

Stepping out in front of them for the emergency stop could mean a short career.

All the best
