A lot of people voted SNP because the SNP successfully promoted themselves as left of labour. There was no such alternative on the left in England apart from TUSK which is not developed enough to pose any threat. The problem for labour is there might be a lot of votes to get back if the go to the left but they risk losing the softie left middle class vote.
