do you guys ride about with high beams on? i never did before but after talking to a mate of mine i started riding with them on and without fail cars will always move over now when i am coming up beside them to overtake.

i am just unsure if this is going to burn out the battery, i am currently riding a 2015 125 cbr, i turn them off when waiting at lights but flick back on when moving

Not only bloody annoying for cagers, worse still for other bikers since it's harder to avoid the reflection in the mirrors. Also in my opinion it makes it harder for the vehicle in front to gauge the speed you're approaching them at.

Riding with lights on all the time = Yes.
Riding with high beam on all the time = No.

I remember it being advised on my CBT and then when I went on the GS for license training the instructor turned them on for me and told me to leave them on, all the bikes I've seen on the road, sensible full license holders (an observation, riders without L plates and people that look "sensible" on the surface, not saying that having their lights on or off makes them any less sensible or in control than the opposite) rather than L platers or noobs on sports bike "riding it like they stole it" have there lights on all the time, I used this to gauge that if someone who's undergone full license training uses their lights all the time and it's many riders I've encountered then it must be a thing (and no, I don't follow everything they do).

My bike has three modes "daytime lights", "nightime low beam" and "nightime high beam" although I never use the daytime one as the bulb is weak and pointless.

Dip don't Dazzle. Wait until you're on a country road and a car puts their main beam on. Laughing You won't know where you are.

You'll be that idiot that gets hit by the oncoming car because you blinded him and he could not see you.

It's also illegal and in the highway code.

You MUST NOT

use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders

Pragmatically it probably is helping you more than it's harming you.

You're a prick for doing it though, so I won't be too upset if it does end up harming you.

Depends, do you like looking at a big, red fog light all the time?

Because that's what you will be looking at for a long time if you follow my van on your 125 with your high beams on.

Every one that rides/drives with the high beam on, should be kicked in the head. Middle Finger

lol fair enough, i thought it was quite common as everyone seems to do it commuting in london especially the big bikes :/ followed a friend in his car yesterday to see if he thought they were blinding and he didnt think so.

even my instructor told me its best to have high beams on during the summer when it is bright out, that is the only reason I have been riding with them on during the sunny days we have been having, if it is dark or raining i dont.

either way probably best not to Thumbs Up as seems the general consensus

If the instructor, that's there to teach you how to ride, told you to do something illegal on purpose, then it was not a good instructor. Thumbs Down

fair enough got the point will keep them off for now Very Happy
its actually the big bikes that have them on 600-1L bikes, most scooters round here have broken lights.

i commute in central london and i would say these past few weeks 4 out of 5 big bikes i see have the full beams on

has anyone converted their bike from the orange standard (halogen?) lights to xenon lights dipped? as these stand out much more

I run Zenon well HID there very good but you don need to check there a lined correctly so as not to dazzle

If you think light will make you safe think again you ONLY defence is your riding skill and observation skills

I had a customer watch the bike in front get taken by a car from a side road "sorry mate I didn't see you"

Bike Hit was no 3 of 5 bike convoy all Blue and Yellow all blues and two's on !!

You do not need HID lights on your 125cc, single cylinder, barely doing 60 mph, motorcycle. Thumbs Up

If you want to do as much as possible for your safety, use Hi-vis vest.

i dont use high beams at night unless an unlit road, i only used them as was mentioned by a few big bikers that they use them when it is sunny,

either way not going to win this debate so high beams will be off from now on Thumbs Up , will just make sure when/if i get a big bike it has xenon lights (as you notice them far better from a distance and they look better Rolling Eyes )

This.

My headlights were terrible so I have upgraded the bulb and as a result it is a much brighter light. Some bikes even have HID lights fitted that makes them look whiter and brighter.

yeah i just want brighter bulbs tbh but unsure what a cbr125 can handle in terms of drawing power from battery etc. hopefully wont have this bike for too long Rolling Eyes just need to get around to doing DAS. my old scooter had HID lights and were much nicer and more noticable (pcx125)

i'd be surprised if people are riding with high beam on, just sounds idiotic to me.

Guys at work always so mine are bright anyway, my previous bike i just fitted the better bulbs (sorry cant remember what they are called now) but it gives a whiter light and much brighter.

Just do this.
