Having rode one on holiday I realised how much fun they are and how cheap and practical they are.
I'm looking to get one for the short journey to work and for popping into town which is about 4 miles away.
I always associated them with chavs and saw no reason to have a bike under 600cc but now I've seen the light.
Can someone help me choose a decent one.
Think the Yamaha majesty and Honda pcx seem popular.I like the Piaggio liberty too.
I don't want to pay more than about £2200. Long service intervals would be good as would engines with a decent lifespan.
Not that bothered about speed but would like one that doesn't go into crawl mode when it sees a hill.
Thought I'd ask here as maybe new riders are more likely to have had one recently or still own one. |

Anybody ride 125s not only the new riders. They can be more fun than a big bike in town.
About which one it depends how tall you are? IMO PCX is made for midgets. Try Honda SH125 or PS125 much better scooters. Comfort is way better, have step through wide, flat floor board, big nice seat, big tyres.
For some reason "sport" 125 scooters are all the rage now - which is oxymoron. 125 is 125.
If you feel hippier can go Vespa 125 GTS
Piaggio Typhoon 125 / Aprilia SR Motard 125/ sportcity 125 are excellent scooters too. ____________________ Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not...

Yeah I know lots have scooters now but the big boys hang out in the other forum and scoff at anything that doesn't do 0-60 in 3.5 secs
It was partly a holiday romance Roger but I realised how comfortable they are even on a 30 mile ride and for getting into town they seem ideal.Free parking too.
I did find them fun.Probably in the same way riding a monkey bike is fun.Just so easy to ride too.
As soon as I rode 200 yards down the road from the hire place I had a smile on my face. Can't fully explain why lol.
It appeals to me not changing gear all the time in town and being able to quickly wheel out a light bike when I need to do something.
I mostly use my bike for pleasure now.For short trips and work I use the car.
I just think I'd use a scooter more for everyday trips.Would probably use it more for work too as its going to be cheap to run and keep me a bit dryer than the naked bike I have.
Don't want it to replace the 600 but just fancy something else too.

You're probably right. I'm thinking of scootaying up again this winter (i.e. early September) and reckon I might as well just go for something like a PCX instead of a midi. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I think vespas look cool, the neighbor has a pcx which I've ridden, would recommend, nippy and comfy, corners well and doesn't look half as chavy as the gileras and peugeots zipping past with the indicator still flashing ____________________ Six Strings & Two Wheels! |

I think I prefer the flat footplate and maybe big wheeled style. Those two you mentioned Val seem to fit the bill.
The new majesty/pcx look really nicely specced but I think i'll look for something a bit less space age. Do I really need start stop and ipod docks lol.
They are obviously cheap to run but yeah its not saving you money if you have a bike anyway. But my 600 is in good nick,i like it a lot and want to keep it a long time. Its my weekend ride and I don't want to run it into the ground.
I do about 15k a year and having 2 bikes and a car is going to spread the wear and tear a bit.My car seems to be clocking up the miles fast this year as I've not used the bike as much as I normally do.
Thought about a 125 bike bigdom but couldn't wait to get rid of the last one.No pleasure at all for me.You still have gears and they aren't particularly light or nippy.Tyres last about 3k and they rust like a tin of beans.
As I said, first time I jumped on the scooter I was grinning.I had it for about 8 hours and never got bored of it |

Think I'm going for a Peugeot Tweet
Its the style I'm after and £1700 new with 2 year warranty its a bargain innit.
Heard its actually Chinese made or something but it supposedly goes quite well and is light.
Just got to wait till I move now and get my garage but I'm cited |
