Insurance question.

Running my details through some insurance compare websites and when I get to the marital status section I put single even though im engaged, does this even affect price at all?

Does it affect the likelihood of making a successful application because if I were married for example then at least there's significant other to help with payments if I couldn't make them?

Or is it just extra statistical data they collect to eventually sell on down the line?

A friend of mine *cough* always used to put married and they frequently saw a reduction in the cost of premiums and very rarely would an insurance company ask "Can we see your marriage certificate please".

Even today I'm not sure where my marriage certificate is.

i always thought it was because if you were married you tended to be a bit more sensible so less of a risk

They stick it all into some sort of Cray and it spits out probability. Or some maths shit. So if you live in nice post code, married, kids, own your own home blah blah then you're more likely mathematically to be a safe & responsible kinda guy.
