Wordpress....

I've been given a WAMP wordpress app to put on one of my windows boxes, it works ok, however as I am adding more and more content it seems to be struggling.

My thoughts are to fire up a VM, windows or linux, and install the components manually however the internet seems to be obsessed with these WAMP, MAMP, XAMPP type versions of wordpress.

So am I wasting my time trying to set up Apache, MySQL, PHP and then Wordpress as opposed to just getting a 1 click installer?

This about the only guide I have found that covers my plan https://www.techmalaya.com/2007/10/03/beginners-guide-install-wordpress-on-local-apache-web-server/ as you can see it's from 2007 so probably well out of date.

So if you know about Wordpress any tips for what I should be doing, other than wondering why we have a web department who already run Wordpress but are being less than supportive. hahaha.

Don't use a pre-done WAMP / LAMP or any of that crap - updates are slow especially for security patches etc .

If you use something like ubuntu 15.04 LTS in a VM then part of the process is to pick the type of server it is and it'll install the bits for you. It's not that difficult to do manually either.

I've found this old article for you, it's going to be the same for any version of ubuntu in terms of the package names you need to install. Most of the config will be the same too, there might be minor changes for apache2 but not much. Once you have mysql, apache2 and php installed and working you can extract the wordpress archive into your directory and start from there.

Thanks, will work through it been trying to do some stuff on this "wAMP" version and it dies constantly.
