40" LED Samsung Smart TV - Cracked panel - Worth repair

Right. We've got a 40" smart TV (Samsung), and cracked the panel in it while moving.

It was a £600 TV, and only about 5 months old.

What's the score with having the screen replaced. Rang a few TV repairers but they don't seem interested in doing cracked panels.

Accidental damage cover on your contents insurance?

Bloody cat knocked over our plasma last year, mullered the screen, local TV repairers did not want to repair local TV. Many penguins died to bring you this information.

There's no money to be made in this if you're a repair shop. The panels are obviously the most expensive part, and add in at least an hour of labour to strip/swap/rebuild and you're in buy-a-new-TV territory.

If it's a model that's been out more than a year (and you are very patient!) you could watch eBay for a dead one with a working panel and transplant it?

I think (citation needed) that there is some calibration done at the factory too so if it's a bodging type of repair shop they may not have the knowledge to do this properly leaving you with a sub-optimal picture. Every set has a service menu with lots of scary looking options in for tweaking the screen.

I was surprised how many of these are on ebay with broken screens presumably from falling over.
