Hi,
I am breaking a bike and will be selling all the parts and the registration number which is worth a few hundred pounds. The bike is currently sorned. If I sell the number I would then presumably need to tell the DVLA that I have scrapped the bike and no longer own it. It would then not have a V5C. Can I then sell the frame or would it be worthless without a V5C? Or can I sell the number and be issued with an age related plate and then get a new V5C which can be used to sell the frame? An advice greatly appreciated.

Phil

Depends on the bike and so on.
Though, even more likely it'd be used to ring a bike as a track bike if it was from a sports bike.

how long has the bike been sorned? when did the mot run out? there are rules about removing the reg from vehicles that aren't taxed and mot'd ( if talking about putting it on retention to sell and getting a new number for the bike)
something like this.....

If the donor vehicle’s tax and / or MOT has expired you can still sell your registration number provided all the following conditions apply at the time of the transfer application:-

The tax expired within six months of the transfer application
The MOT was valid at the time the tax expired
You were the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time the tax expired
The tax expired naturally, i.e., you didn’t apply for a refund

Note: If the MOT has expired, you can still sell your registration mark provided the road tax is valid at the time of the transfer application and that you were the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time the MOT expired.

Note: In all cases you will need to provide us with the MOT certificate, valid or expired.

OK, thanks guys. I think I've got the hang of this now. I've sent off a form to retain the registration number. They issue an age related number to replace the one being retained. I can then sell the number. This can also be done online although for some reason when I tried it was not accepted. I think I satisfy all the criteria so fingers crossed it will all be OK.
