Not sure I agree with this... I think the best piece of advice you can give someone who isn't sure on filtering is to...

Filter at a sensible speed. Make sure you will be able to stop / take evasive action should you need to.

Telling people to keep their high beams on whilst filtering is a little stupid - all you're going to do is dazzle every motorist you pass. This may mean that they won't move over for the next motorcyclist trying to filter because you have pissed them off.

You could say the same for loud exhausts. Loud exhausts and blipping the throttle when filtering may annoy some because of they don't fancy hearing your loud exhaust & not move over for the next biker.

I also don't think a high beam in broad day light will dazzle drivers.

Don't get me wrong your point is very valid, I'm just playing the devils advocate Smile

I know the OP & did say this wouldn't be the wisest idea. He's new to forums and social media, but not new to making websites. He's trying to figure out what the best ways are to promote this site. He's actually pretty knowledgable, so could actualty be a good contributer to BCF, so bare with him Smile

This obviously isn't the best way to go about things spamming this forum, he's genuinely trying to understand/grasp what works and what doesn't work; what's acceptable amongst forums and Facebook pages and not etc.

And the drivers must move over because you are uncapable to ride properly and there is a danger somebody to hit you unless they move over??

You are aware that forcing other drivers to change direction or speed is dangerous driving do you?

Well if it works for you then that's great, more power to you however this certainly is a practice that I won't be adopting any time soon. I have my dipped beam on all the time, I personally think this is enough to be seen.

I am also attending a Bike Safe course in August, may I ask where you completed yours? If it happens to be the same one I'll see if they mention riding with full beams on. Thumbs Up

Not at all never said they must move over, but I'm sure when you've filtered and a driver has seen you and given you more room its given reassurance you have been seen.

I'm sure as a biker when in your car you extend that same courtesy when you see a bike coming through

I'll be doing mine in Romford so no chance, still I should imagine the course is somewhat standardised so we'll see... I'll report back.

What's Bodyguard?
Not most of us, all of us have rear brakes to trail when we go in too fast, but for a new rider who is still getting used to and comfortable riding his/her bike and still learning alot about how to handle their bike correctly, advising them to go in slower and making them aware the of a common front brake consequence when cornering is surely better than advising rear trail braking.

Valid point re:front brake and new rider but, why not mention both what to and not what to do?

This.Only 2 kinds of people leave their high beam on when filtering through traffic. Wankers and dickheads and you are encouraging this practice?

You do realise that in a court filtering is a grey area at the best of times. "but y'onnor he had his high beams on when I pulled out in front of him and I was dazzled." will get the biker the fault every single time.

Take your good advice and do us a favour, Stop spreading it as you will get bikers killed.

Good job I'm not following when I'm filtering then really. I'm yet to come across a driver or hear of someone being knocked off because they weren't seen on their bike for filtering with high beams being the reason and dazzling a driver but have personally seen how drivers are more aware of your presence with them on.

And I'm sure a loud can won't legally pass an MOT so I guess a valid argument would be being heard is a bad idea because it's illegal too.

Honestly this is the worst I've seen and I've seen a lot of shit on the London roads. Basically you do not care that you may dazzle somebody which can lead to accident you care only for YOU.

Also the fact that somebody else may be filtering and you can blind them from behind does not mean anything for you.

I really do not see the point of that discussion given the fact:

Of course everybody are aware of you. And I know what they are thinking about it - what a twat with high beam on. If you think you are different than BMW twats with the 20 additional fog lights you are wrong. It is very annoying and very dangerous.
