As they cost next to nothing and don't look like they have been changed for along time, no harm in changing them.

So, rather than try and find out what is wrong, you are going to replace stuff on the basis 'it's not been changed for a while' even if it's not likely to be the cause?

this is indeed a very important motorcycling issue and deserves to be in biking news.
if only there had been some warning that a strangers scooter would run a bit crappy.
