Acceleration/Power Issues what could it be?

My bike passed an MOT recently, I took it to this family run place and they are very good, only had an advisory for the engine bush.

Anyway, I've had this Piaggio 125 for less than 2 weeks, it hasn't been right since day one.

It struggles so much to get up to speed, sometimes struggles to get up to 45mph or 50mph, it has got up to 63mph but it's so inconsistent and it doesn't seem to have the get up and go, it is lacking power and feeling so sluggish.

The bike shop cleaned the carb as it needed doing but that didn't help.

Today they looked at the carb again and checked spark plugs and filters etc and they didn't charge me a penny for doing this despite looking at it for an hour.

I'm booking it in for an engine compression test next week and having the valve clearances done too, I've told them to change the rollers whilst they are looking at it, been told to expect to pay £40-£50 for this with labour which isn't too bad.

What do you think it could be? I've done over 70 miles since it was MOT'ed, it runs, just not as it should do.

As they cost next to nothing and don't look like they have been changed for along time, no harm in changing them.

this is indeed a very important motorcycling issue and deserves to be in biking news.
if only there had been some warning that a strangers scooter would run a bit crappy.
