TL/DR warning

I have had cheap pop riveters in the past and to be fair, whilst they did not give a lot of pleasure I could get by even using 4mm dia rivets and Popeye arms, they eventually after good service gave up the ghost.

In the past year I purchased another cheap riveter, I actually snapped a handle lever apply closing pressure to a 3mm rivet, in the bin it had to go.

I just bought 2 more riveters (pics below of actual type) I bought 2 because I was getting free postage, the Silverline was only £4.00.
Total cost for 2 was £20.00, absolutely shite except for the smallest of rivets, they struggle with 2.5mm X 6mm, destined for bin as soon as I get a replacement(s).

Anyways, I need a decent hand riveter for confined spaces, I will buy something bigger as well, say size of lazy tongs where space is not a problem.

I don't mind spending a fair bit for a good product, I'm sick to death of the shite I am now using, Oh, and for a larger heavier duty riveter it does not have to be lazy tong type.

BCF collective hepl needed, what can you recommend ?

Say £40.00 for hand riveter, more if needed.
Heavier duty riveter, I am open to suggestions.
Powered riveters, yes, but I would want mains not battery because I will end up with doodah rechargeable batteries that will probably cost a fortune to replace.

Finally, can I get a compact riveter that will do the job comfortably for both small and say up to 6mm dia X 10mm long (max), I know something like that would be costly, but I would regard it as an investment.

Edit: I have a compressor so an air riveter is a possibility, downside is I cannot take the compressor with me if job needs done outside the garage.
So an air riveter to live in the garage could be a second best option.

Youtr post just reminded me i need a new one. Could not find your £4 silverline one so had to pay £4.98 lol. Anyway, the one that has just packed up was a cheap as chips shite out B&Q some 20 years ago and thats it just not long died so dont be put off with cheap ones unless you are a heavy user. Odd jobs = get a cheap one.

You can make those cheap riveters easier to use if you take smaller 'bites' between squeezes. To do this you leave a small gap between the nozzle and the rivet head instead of pushing it fully home when you release the grips.

I'll be sure to read this when my £5 pop-riveter fails on me, at which point I'll either buy a premium brand ones, or 8 x the same ones that have yet to fail on me, ever.

You can break a pop riveter using steel rivets. They aren't very common though.

Am sure every post on here made by anyone is boring to someone else but whether it needs rating as such I don't see how it's necessary / justified unless it's a frequent spammer / troll / attention seeker etc that you wish to discourage from making further posts.

I broke my riveting tool putting in a rivet that came with it..

So I used one of my older ones.

I still have a pop-rivet tool that I bought new in 1972 from 'The George Tucker Eyelet Company' who I think invented pop-rivets.

I have used it mostly with 4mm aluminium rivets, but it easily copes with 6mm stainless rivets and steel threaded inserts.

It probably cost me a week's wages (as an apprentice) back then, but they don't make 'em like that any more!

Having been a coachbuilder in the past.

Lazy Tongs are by far the best. Can get attachments to get rivets done in confined spaces.

Can't say i have had the other ones fail on me. Smaller bites is probably good advice.

Stainless pop rivetts can be a sod.

I've got some fairly decent (draper expert) pop rivetters. I'm not exactly weedy but I have to slide a bit of pipe over the handles to get them to pop the bigger stainless ones I use on my canoe.

Bit of delay posting update here, local hospital requested I stay with them for several days (bloody twice), good news for me is that the ailment was not fatal.

So, new purchases, Air riveter Lazy Tongs and on it's way from America a Hand Riveter, guy I know let me try out his Teng Tools hand riveter and it has much better levering action than the cheapo's, spits out rivet pins nicely too.

Teng riveter from USA only £20.00, a mate is bringing it back with him in a few weeks time.
