Dear Aunty BCF, today I split up with my girlfriend of five years. We briefly split about a year ago, got back together though.

I met someone else a week ago, and although I've been a good boy and kept my willie in my pants, I felt a connection like I have not felt in the five years that I had been seeing the now ex.

We were supposed to be going on holiday in a week, which I now have pulled out of. I don't feel like I can live a lie and lead her on, but now I feel like the worst person alive. How could I pretend I'm feeling something I'm not? How is that fair on her?

Much crying, lots of anger, she truly loved me. Threw lots of things at me!

I guess it's time to drop her stuff off soon, house key etc. Drop it over when she's not in?

No Facebook etc to worry about.

What the fuck now?

Breathe a sigh of relief, have a night out with your mates, and move on.
As you say, maintaining a one-sided relationship isn't fair on either party. She'll be hurting for a while, but rather a couple of months of feeling gloomy than a lifetime of wondering what the problem is.

If you really want to look like the worst person in the world, you can bill her for the stuff she threw at you.

You'd have got that little show even if she thought you were a dick, it's part of their coping mechanism IMO.
Where was the holiday?

Youve done the decent thing, tough though it was. She will recover.

You just need to ignore any (misplaced) guilty feelings and move on.

Don't rush things with the new one though.

Shitty timing with the holiday coming up but you are right in ending if. If you really don't feel like you love her anymore then you can't be happy and maintaining a relationship when you don't want to be part of it is cruel for both parties.

She will eventually get over it and move on. As will you.

Can't see how you could have handled it much better. there's always pain in these things and usually more for one than the other. Fair play to you for making the break clean and not leading a double-life.

No nice way to ditch someone ... i've tried them all over the years, you're a c**t no matter which way you do it when you're the one that does the walking.

Best to be honest - it won't make it any easier but it makes it easier for you to live with.

That is the coward's way out, by the way, dropping her stuff over when she isn't in.

But given that (as mentioned by several others) you've been pretty up front with the actual dumpage, then you could get away with leaving it at her mum's house or something and not be considered a complete bastard.

Well, I think that it's bloody despicable, you dumping her like that, as though she were some old piece of furniture, or the like, thrown into the nearest skip.

The very least that you could do is post her up in Everything Else.

Someone might be glad of her. Razz

Feelings of guilt over the hurt you've caused her will take years to go away.

Not so sure about that, firstly OP is a he. So unlikely to even make the link between her mood being caused by his actions.
Secondly, He's already lined up a new place to park his sausage! Give over with that Mills and Boon rubbish!

OP, I don't get why you're doing all the, "Boo hoo, what should I do?", nonsense. You've done the dumping, based on new feelings under a week old, so you have to stand by your decision and prepare to be hailed a bastard by your ex. Let's remember that, up until you minute you dumped her, all was well in her world.

Best of luck with the new relationship. Fingers crossed she's decided you're also "the one" within a week of meeting or you really will be on here asking what to do next.

Thumbs Up

You already did the hard part, not sure if that was made easier or harder by the fact you'd already broken up before. As a rule I never go back Thumbs Down

The fact that I felt a spark for someone else is neither here or there really, it just highlighted to me once again that something was lacking. Sooner or later I would stray and that isn't right, or who I am.

It was a biking holiday. She paid for my crossing and deposits for a few things, she still wants me to go "as friends". I can't / won't, but feel guilty for screwing up something she was looking forward to. Meh.

Bit of a nasty one if she was going on the back of your bike as it has totally fucked up the holiday for her.

Still, done now and 'going as friends' isn't going to work as you know full well.

Nice one for being an honorable chap OP.

I did the same before, found myself fancying some other girl, so broke up with my gf on principle despite nothing ever happening with other girl.

Moral high ground feels good man.
