Please help me!!

im worried about my nsr im shure its geting slower it taking alot longer to hit 60 and i havnt been able to hit a ton on it in ages it de-ristricted ecsept for the front sproket.

either im just getting used to the speed of theres sommin wrong so any suggestions would be good, i hope its sommin silly like the spark plug (ive done 5000miles on the same plug is that to long???).

thank kieth the bike total milage is 5013 ill change the plug as soon as pos.

If it was a dealer service I would've thought they'd probably change the plugs or should anyway, check in the handbook it will probably have a list of stuff that should be done at each service.

Take a look at the plug itself you'll know if its nackered or not, not exactly the most difficult of jobs to whip the tank up and have a look at the plug is it now.

How long should rings last??/ Also i got my bike with only 4000miles on the clock and thrashed it from the start, should it have been run in by then???

i checked the plug its fine ive evan de-coked the exhaust could it be dirty air filter or somthing???




ohh an i wouldnt worry at 4000 miles your bike should be well run in:)

Phew, thought my bike might suddenly seize!!! (its only 4000 km's, doubt it would make much differance). Anyone know how often to change the rings though???

Hi

Could be anything. At that mileage it should not be the rings, but they can go . On the RS I had lost some performance as I was coming up to change the rings, and it turned out that one had snapped, probably from me failing to gap it correctly. This knocked around 5mph off the top speed, but made alot more difference than that to general power at high revs.

Have you still got the stock air filter. FRom memory that is an oiled piece of foam. At a service you clean this out and re oil it. Use too much oil and it will not flow much air.

There are loads of other things it could be. Hell, even a knackered chain will knock performance down a bit

ctyson mate, your chain is way too slack, the servo(?) cable is loose and your spark plug is too old. There you go, problem solved.

u didnt say ur bike was slower at the hill... now i no that then yeah its definitly the rc servo cable... tighten it like a bike brake cable, then ur bike should b fine..

i got a new plug today plus ive ordered a new chain and front sproket, rear tyre and rear wheel bearings all of which get fitted on friday so i'll defenatly be there on sunday.


ive tried today to do the servo cable but couldnt work out how to (do i just turn the nut a few times thats next to the servo????

Hi

From the manual

Turn the ignition switch on and start the engine. During idling stop the engine by turning the ignition switch OFF

Note - Do not stop the engine with the engine kill switch

Loosen the front cover bolt and remove the rear cover bolt and timing pulley cover

Check the gap between the notch on the cable guide base and the H mark on the RC valve timing pulley should be within 0.3mm (0.01")

If the gap exceeds 0.3mm , adjust the valve timing as following:

Loosen the lock nut and ajust the gap by turning the adjuster.

Note while turning the adjuster, hold the cable tube to prevent the tube from being twisted.

Tighten the lock nut securely.

After adjustment start the engine and make sure the gap is within 0.3mm

Install the timing pulley cover in the reverse order of removal.

how much does it cost for new rings? i'm about to have a service at 11.5k do u think they will change them for me or should i ask them to? my bike is not as fast as it used to be
