i got win 8 on my new pc, lasted 1 day before it was wiped and back to 7, new laptop has 8.1 which is better, ive stuck with it, only because i can't fucken downgrade it, the loader on the hp is locked, friggin annoying,
it all works, but i dont like it, every thing is a mission to find, and i just have to use the search feature to find anything, where i know where every thing is in win7.

its a bit like the latest upgrade on my htc, everything was fine, an update came out, now ive got a 3 hour battery life.

i cant imagine 10 is going to be any better when they are clearly basing it on 8.

How many times do i have to say it....

I installed Classic Shell, quite a handy little alternative, cheers Thumbs Up

Only annoying thing now is that I sometimes want to find a program I regularly used, and it suddenly occurs to me that I don't know what's even called because I got so used to just clicking the icon on the shit Win8 start menu Laughing

They're ramping up to it.

Looks like they've gone off a bit premature on some things.

They've already broken skype and removed the older versions from the download centre. I've had three PCs fuck up at work in the last couple of weeks by auto-updating skype to version memory-hog_1.0.

Luckily I still have the old versions installation file squirrelled away.

Presumably the "fix" will be upgrade to windows 10.

My PC is 7 and my tablet is 8.1.

I've found win8 to be the point where most of the games I played in late 1990s to early 2000s don't work anymore. Win 7 most work straight away or maybe needing some minor tweaking, but 8 seems a step too far.

Might have to look at an XP virtual machine or similar for playing oldie games?

Windows 10 now running on a Spare work laptop ...

64gb Ram, 512Gb SSD, Nvidia K5100M graphics .... and it's running like a 3 legged dog.

Going to let it run through updates and see how it goes but so far, not a fan.

Edit: Can't see the point of this over 8.1 with Classic Shell ..... poor driver support also - non existent from Dell yet.

For now, that's me out of Microsofts live customer testing program Smile

blimey you chucked your hand in quickly!

Im doing the same whilst at work. Just installing it on a laptop at work to see what work programs may or may not work.

Installed the RTM version last night at home to have a play and seemed a lot better than the build i used a few months back.

At least this ones had 4.5 million beta testers over the last six months.

It's pointless for me at the moment. Logmein doesn't work. Video driver has issues, neither Dell nor Intel have any of the driver support in place

I have something a bit more 'middle road' in terms of hardware at home that i'll do a bit more testing on - but the high end machine is going back to Win7 Smile

Today is the day I've been told I can go ahead and download it for myself and get going with Win10. Think I'll wait now..!

I got bored at work and logged onto another one of my PC's at home. Set it off down the slippery slope of a Windows 10 upgrade and that's the last i heard of it Laughing

Will be interesting to see what has become of it when i get home.

I've installed on my home desktop, nothing special just a Dell Optiplex workstation PC. It had windows 7 with a non-genuine licence and seems to have upgraded just fine with no activation issues, all of my files and programs have transferred over safely although I do have backups just in case. If it does cop out there's always the downgrade and reactivate option.

No issues so far and although the layout is a little quirky I'm sure I'll get used to it given enough time.

Forced updates would be a deal-breaker for me too. Not to mention the people still on diabolically slow broadband speeds.

They have fucked me over too often with bugged updates to trust them again. I've had to sit and supervise the tedious re-installation of an entire operating system too many times as a result of a bugged update.

If/when I do updates these days, I do them one PC at a time. I'm no admin, I'm only overseeing 8 or 9 PCs at work but if all of them fell over at once due to a forced update bug (and it's fairly likely one bad update could take out the lot since the hardware is pretty much identical), the fuckuppery would be immense.

Hmm.

I've installed it also, I thought I was being clever by looking for the iso's and installing it that way. (There is a download option for making isos and a bootable usb)

But, you're not allowed to do this! Yup. It won't activate

(Well, there is a work around).

You have to upgrade first, (so run the setup from the iso).

And once you've upgraded and activated, you can then do a clean install. (Microsoft presumably then knows your system details).

I'm currently trying this now.

It didn't work. So it's upgrade only.

Luckily I have a wim from a fresh windows 7 install on a bootable sub pe disk, so it didn't take long to sort.

Going to stick it on my spare home laptop and just use it for a bit - it's a mid spec L502 with an SSD and a GT540M graphics card with 8gb of ram ... see how i get on with it over a period of time.

However after reading the reports of how it handles multimonitor systems .. it's going nowhere near my main machine for a good while yet.

My main rig is in need of the rebuild I'll do it when I can. I tried to do a fresh install last night, however it wouldn't accept my windows 8 pro upgrade key, my Windows 7 Pro Upgrade key or my Vista Ultimate key. So I guess they are going to send out new keys?

I suspect, becauses it's ( the free version) delivered by updates ... you'll need a registered version of 7, 8 or 8.1 installed in the first place. I haven't seen any keys for it yet but i'll go and have a look in our MSDN area and see.

Looks like you can buy it for 87 quid and it will come with a key ... but why do that when you can buy 7 for half that and get a free upgrade.

I'm certain I read someplace that you only qualify for the free upgrade, if you have a registered version of Windows 7/8 activated BEFORE July XXth.
But I could be wrong.
Unlikely Micro$oft would of been so blind though.
