Any ideas how I can permanently remove weeds from my driveway? I don't give a shit about the environment so anything will do. I was told to use salt so I covered the driveway in it before going away on holiday expecting to have a completely weed free drive for coming home to, but more seem to have grown in the time I've been away. Evil or Very Mad

Some of them are even so tall now that they are touching the bottom of the car when it gets moved in and out of the drive.

The weeds seem to vary in type and there are a lot of mossy, grassy type that I cannot remove by hand, and some of the other ones are so brittle that the stalks break before the root comes out. I have taken out the ones that I could (except the ones that have grown in the past 2 weeks).

Can someone suggest something?

I dig out the ones i can, then get some weedol (the red one) from B and Q seems to do the trick.

Sometimes you need to spray the area and not just the weed itself, currently i have a concrete driveway and there is a join half way up, weeds love growing up in the gap however this stuff seems to have killed them off and no signs of coming back, that was about 4 weeks ago now. Thumbs Up

Lift the gravel, put down a membrane, re-lay the gravel.

That is the only way to have a weed-free gravel drive.

Longer term weedkillers like Sodium Chlorate are effective for a while but you can't get that any more because it can also be used to make explosives.

So you're left with glyphosate which is a systemic weedkiller. It'll kill att the weeds it hits but you'll need to keep applying it every time fresh ones come up. Remember it kills weeds by making them outgrow their energy supply so they appear extra-lush a week after applying it, then go yellow and die.

buy this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/141441158892?hlpht=true&hlpv=2&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&ff3=1&lpid=122&ul_noapp=true&limghlpsr=true&device=c&chn=ps&crdt=0&ff12=67&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80

mix 50mil with 1 litre of water which is extreme over kill and i guarantee that this will kill anything green, do it over a week as spray them once every day and they die.

this is over kill but i believe in utterly decimating your foe,

ive done this to weeds and unwanted green things and its works!

overkill is called overkill for a reason!

This is if you dont want to re-membrane the ground

Look on the labels of anything in your house or products in your garage and if it says that it is carcinogenic , use that Thumbs Up

I've got some diesel in the garage coincidentally which is doing nothing since we dont have a diesel car. Will try that tomorrow with some before and after pics. Will see how it goes before trying other alternatives.

Diesel will stink for weeks, and doesn't work very well.
It will leave an oily mess that can get tracked onto 'clean' areas or even into the house (and stink) It might be OK say you had a troublesome bush or small tree that keeps sprouting u after cutting back.

Glyphosate is cheap enough, if you spray or apply with a watering can 2 or 3 times a year you will exhaust the seed bank and get moss instead.

Yep, that rosate stuff linked by Woo will definitely do the trick, buy a cheap knapsack from eBay and mix up 5l at a go, and just apply as and when necessary.

The only thing it hasn't manage to completely kill is horsetail, but i don;t think anything will ever kill that. It kills the top growth but a week later is spawning fresh shoots from the same sections of root Sad

Keep at it. You can even get rid of Japanese knotweed if you apply it regularly enough.

Horsetails have a tough outer coating which prevents absorbtion of the chemical properly. If you damage the outside slightly before applying the weedkiller, it gets absorbed better. Give them a bit of a whick with a bamboo cane first. Not enough to break the plants, just enough to damage the outer layers.

Brick acid and a stiff broom are ideal for moss removal from render/concrete if you don't have access
to a power washer.

I have a problem with knotweed, when you say 'apply" you you mean spray or inject with Rosate? I have been using sulphuric acid injected when the flowers appear towards the end of the year with reasonable success.

Whack it with a cane and spray with glyphosate. Keep doing it once a month regularly.

You can also inject glyphosate into a "section" just above the ground and seal the hole with a blob of wax.

When living in oz I used to see the city maintanance guys regularly treat the weeds in the cracks by using an extended blowtorch type thing to burn them out - may be worth a run

5L gallup for 26 quid 7 quid for knapsack sprayer and you have a weed killing machine for the forseable future. 20ml per litre, mix it and spray. Boom.

Better than wasting money on roundup and other diluted weed killers.
