phone using more power than the charger can give

bought the mrs a replacement phone, a htc incredible s.
its actually a old phone model but brand new phone,
she broke the screen on her old one so wanted the same phone again.

but straight out of the box it hasnt been able to charge either the new battery or the one from her old phone

ive looked in the power management and there doesnt seem to be any programs running.


any clues ??

Are you using an AC charger?

What's the rating on the charger? Really need 2amp+ for Android phones. Charging off a computer doesn't cut it at all either, unless it's a special port for charging devices.

ive tried it with the stock charger, the pc and my 2amp samsung charger.
all the same.
wifi and mobile data off on all methods.
ill try it with the phone off now

i wonder if this is some sort of update/os problem, as my htc one x+ is now as good as useless since i installed the update, 2 hours on a charge!!! where it had been 16 before the update,

saying that when i put the old battery in the incredible it lasted fine it just wouldnt charge properly

HTC One X+ was the worst phone I've ever owned, a wonder I didn't go back to iPhones after having one of them. It always had random drain problems, went to bed with 70% battery woke up and it'd be dead so no alarm etc. Just laggy, got really hot when playing games and awful battery life.

see my one x and onex+ were both fantastic phones until i got an update and battery life went from 16hours+ down to 2hours.
so it could have only been the update that caused the fault.

my one x has a broken screen, so what i might do is swap out the screen and battery from the one x+ to the one x. and never give it any sort of update. its not as if i need a quad core processor in a phone.


incredible has been on charge with power off for 1.5 hours.
light just flashes and wont go solid telling me its not really charging.
and won't power on.

battery back into the old incredible, good as gold, charges fine.
looks like new incredible isnt very incredible, and will see the foreseeable future in a draw/bin

unless anyone has any ideas,

step 1: download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget

step 2: see what its charging at.

step 3: compare with output of the plug on the charger.

my s3 would always die faster than it charged, was charging at 100mah.. turns outs the cable was a bit fucked so making a bad connection, new cable and charging at 1000mah.

so if its reading under 300mah you deffo need a new cable. if the plugs rated for 300mah get a new plug of atleast 1ah

Why don't you just try charging the battery in the old phone to rule out what the problem is?

My battered old one x would only charge on three of the five leads I had. It did go sick one time with flashing red light and I fixed it by swapping out the battery. It was on it's last legs by then though.

Had this with my Dad's Kindle we got for Xmas.

Gave us the USB lead but not USB Plug, so we got by using our Apple USB plugs. However the charging was so slow & using the kindle at the same time depleted the kindle battery.

Got the Kindle USB charger & it charges perfectly now, the Kindle USB plug was a higher ampage than any Apple USB plugs we had and even a generic USB plug.
So try getting another or a new USB plug with a higher rating

I would look at returning it......and buying one of those usb charging monitors for a few quid from ebay. itll tell you what voltage and current your lead/phone and charger are managing. it also tells you how much charge your battery has taken. sounds daft but its pointed me at a fair few problems with phone/ipad and ecig charging issues to the point i've bought a volutz 6 port charger and leads and bejezus my 3 yr old HTC one m7 charges in half the time and its still holding a full charge after the serious battering it gets. if your only getting 2 hours use you need to see if its the charging side thats shutting off early or if its a excessive drain on your phone in use/fubar battery as thats a possible fire risk

tryed the other battery which was an arse, because you have to pry open both phones, bring back non sealed phones.

did the same thing with the other battery.
ill try and find the original software, and flash it back,
clearly a software issue, as it was good as gold untill i did an update on the phone.

back to using the old htc 0ne x. broken screen is no where as annoying as a 2 hour battery life.

Had same problem with my HTC Explorer. Bought cheapo replacement usb lead to for HTC wall plug. Depending on how I twist the lead it either charges very slowly, but only to 95% or it runs the battery down and gives me the "using more energy than charger can supply" message. Tried the usb lead from wife's motog, works perfectly.
