Avoid Taxi drivers, use public transport. Metro is great and easy to use, even for foreigners, actually. Food and drinks, well, it's like anywhere else. If you're in the bussy center, the odds are the prices are gonna by sky high, BUT there are places even in the center, where you get relatively alright prices of food and beverages. 1 GBP is 38,398 CZK, last time I was in Prague, a pint (0.5L) of beer was around 30CZK (Gambrinus), Pislnerurquel is the fancy beer here, so it's a bit above that. So if beer is way above 1 pound, I wouldn't really bother to waste my money there. But then, the avg. wages in the UK are 3x higher than ours, so decide yourself.
Crime and stuff, well I've been there twice so far and never had a problem.
Things worth to see,
1) I found the Prague Castle interesting, especially the St. Vitus Cathedral that's located in there. I'm not religious person, but the monstrosity/hugeness of the cathedral was just amazing. The entry to the cathedral used to be for free, but they charge something now.
Right next to it, to the left, there's the Golden Lane, people also like that. That should get you to one of the parks, but I'm not quite sure about that. And there are a lot of places, that are familiar from the Czech history.
2) Then, I was lucky enough to see the inside of the National Theatre by the river. I wasn't there to see a show, I was there when it was all empty, I could even see the backstage and cellar, where a lad explained how the theater takes fresh cold air from the river side and vents it through the whole building. Impressive stuff.
3) Then, the JEWS, if you like jews, there are crap loads of synagogues and jewish cemeteries. I wasn't impressed I must say.
4) The Charles Bridge is also an obvious point of interest, Yet I did not find it amusing really. It also gets you to the Kampa Island, lovely place.
5) The National Museum on the Wenceslas Square.
6) The Petrin Tower (it's on the hill so, take the cable car or walk up there if you will)
8) Try local food!
9) Try local beverages!
10) An English speaking tour guide. The first time I was there, I had a tour guide, I saw the city and got a look into the various places. The second time I just went and got drunk with mates. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Young people will speak English, older people will put English words into a rather odd order with some German words and something that they think is English.
Also, if you google around, you can find all the pubs were the famous people of the 19th and 20th century were drinking their lives off and getting high before they wrote their books, invented their contraptions, painted their paintings, etc. You can also find the places where Hollywood shot their blockbuster films. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

If memory serves, it's about a dozen paces from the Florenc station on the yellow line (subway)
I asked for the special program. It consisted of 10shots with 2 different semi-auto pistols, 10 shots with a 10-shooter revolver, 5 shots with a 357 magnum revolver and 3 cartridges with a pump action shot gun. Cost me around £35 back around 2002.
Other than that, the communism museum was pretty good and we managed to get to see the town hall and the back of the astronomical clock by paying £1.50 to a couple of old dears in the back of the tourist office on a thursday afternoon.
Obviously my info is over a decade out of date, so it may not be the same now. ____________________ 1977 Honda CG125

A week is too long, unless you take some excursions to outlying castles etc.
I spent three nights there a few years back for my wedding anniversary and a couple of nights on business a year later. It was more than enough time |

Weird... I spent two weeks there back in '02 and still want to go back again. After the first couple of days, I started going off the beaten track, hence stuff like the gun club. We hired boats and pushbikes, we went to black light and puppet theatres. We frequented bars well away from the tourist areas and tried to learn czech from the locals, which pretty much ended up with us taking it in turns with the locals buying rounds and pointing at various objects and yelling the corresponding word. We even descended into singing in czech one night (we didn't actually learn any czech, so we could've been singing all sorts of dodgy stuff, but it was fun).
Up near the castle there was a microscopic museum. Whole books written on the back of a stamp, sculptures of camels in the eye of a needle etc. One day we followed the guide book trying to find a country and western store. after 4 hours of searching, it turned out it had changed hands and become a sex store. We went in and bought a couple of videos, because otherwise it would've been a wasted day.
We even spent the odd day just walking around with our eyes above street level just taking in the architecture.
Horses for courses I 'spose. I did manage to buy cartons of smokes for £7 each (West, the ones who used to sponsor McClaren F1). Brought 3200 cigs back to the UK. They lasted me over 6 months! ____________________ 1977 Honda CG125
