Hi all,

here are a few pics of the AF1 i recently purchased. I got her cheap and i am currently giving her a lot of TLC.

judging from the framenumber she is originally from greece.
I find parts that according to what i can find on the internet, belong to a Sports pro. But some other things say its a normal AF 1

PRO AF1 sports pro : 28mm carb and 8400 RPM rave valve control unit.

Pro AF 1 : cilinder number does not match with AF1 sports pro versions. electric starter

the tank is plastic, not steel.

reason i would like to know are amongst others what to do with the carb.

The sports pro has a 28mm carb but produces 33Bhp due to higher compression ratio and different porting on cilinder.

If its a normal AF1 then it should have had the 34mm carb , and the 28mm carb is restricting it. then a swap to a 34mm carb would make sense.

anybody here that has a clue to what i got here?

regards,

Sander

Hi

Not sure on the barrel being different on the SP. But that looks like quite a late barrel and entirely possible it has been swapped when someone has blown it up. Similarly the RAVE unit could have been swapped.

28mm carb will lose a bit of power probably. They were fitted to the SP version, but also to some other models. Think the German market ones did to limit the power a bit. Possibly the Swiss market ones with a catalytic converter as well.

UK ones had steel tanks, but at the time plastic tanks were not road legal in the UK (when the RS125 came out they just kept the plastic tank and ignored the legality). Not sure any other market had a steel tank.

I would take any power claim with a large pinch of salt.

All gets very confusing when Aprilia do the Sport Pro in some markets as a played with version for a basis for racing, and in other markets as nothing more than a different colour scheme.

Are there any extra frame plates saying SP or the like near the head stock?

All the best

K
